Soooo, on my 84, I was having some issues with the windshield wipers having a mind of their own. I usually only had one speed - "WIDE OPEN" and when I switched them to the off position, they typically turned off at their own leisurely pace.

So yesterday afternoon, looking to kill some time after dinner, I started pulling the cover off and all of the "other" stuff that was in my way. Once I had the cover off, I was thinking "Christ look at of this dirt and $h1t inside this thing." So I broke out the can of electrical circuit cleaner, gave the entire unit a good old fashioned "wash down". After the cleaner evaporated, I carefully inspected the circuit board with my trusty magnifying glass and my blinding LED table light - what a great investment for my old eyes - LOL! Anywho....didn't really see anything that stood out as a problem area, no cracks on the soldered ends, no discoloration. So I buttoned it back up, put everything back in order...fired her old @$$ up and VOILA...all speeds work and the wipers return to the off position when I ask them to do so.....so I HOPE that I have saved myself $99 + shipping. I was ready to pull the trigger and purchase a new cover with the circuit board. I think I may of avoided that expenditure with a can of Electrical Cleaner for $1.69.:woowoo:

Now let's just hope that I didn't jinx myself....knocking on wood here.....

Happy Monday everyone...

Wow, I love when things turn out to be such a simple fix.

Very nice tip:thumbsup3:. I will add another. For those who have the switch in the door like me, take the door panel off, use an eraser, or whatever else works, and clean the electrical contacts to the switch. While you're at it, replace the light bulb. Dirt and other junk get into that despite the splash guard, and cause functional problems. :thumbsup3:

always start simple and work your way to the worst scenario:goodpost:

Thats usually the best thing but I tend to hope for the best but expect the worse just so I don't get too bummed when it ends up being the worst case scenario. Usually my luck.

It is always worst case scenario for me. I just go ahead and buy new parts anytime something messes up.

That can get expensive quick, and still not solve the problem.

Tell me about it. I hate spending 800 bucks to "fix" something and then it turns out to be an overlooked blown fuse. True story. :479: lol
