I use Simple Green for just about anything, on the engine I try to keep the water to a min.

Simple Green lightly with detail brush. Once dry I use McGuires rubber treatment on the hoses, engine bay looks good! Its a time consuming project, but worth it at the end.

One other thing that I have used to help under the engine compartment is a air compressor that I picked up, with a spray nozzle. It helps shot dirt out of tough to reach spots.

I agree with Simple Green awesome stuff! Another good tip is to use a leaf blower after washing the car and engine bay to blow the water off...

I like simple green to clean it and then I use a tire foam and shine on all the plastic and hoses to shine everything back up!
