I had a conversation with my buddy last night inwhich he switched his oil to 0/30 stating that he will get better mileage from doing so.
I thought he was nuts in thinking that, is there any truth to this?

Thinner oil, less resistence, better gas mileage.............

its true, but by using the 0w-30 you maybe voiding any motor warrenty. I would use what GM has on the cap 5w-30. I got 30mpg's the other day. 80mph, in 6th gear, 1300rpm's, 30mpg's not bad.

Years ago one of my neighbors became a Slick 50 distributor. He started out by putting it in his own car, a really nice Volvo. Within a week the engine started running like crap and had a dead cylinder. Took off the valve cover and low and behold one of the cam lobes was gone. The Slick 50 did as advertised, loosened up all the crap in the engine which in turn clogged the small oil passages which lubed the cam lobes............not good!

I agree!!
These cars are probably the most detail engineered cars in the world. Everything is taken into consideration. If you were in the arctic I may say to change but for normal driving in the rest of the world use what is recommended. These engines generally run hot and under great stress. The thinner oils dont have the "body" to sustain the loads. Keep in mind that your normal oil thins out when hot.
BTW I get 22-29MPG - I cant see much improvement on that. If you want to save gas keep the speed under 50. OR as said before get a Honda.

Stick with American, stick with Chevrolet and get a Cobalt.

I don't know if I would buy into this too much, unless someone can completely prove it to me.
