Hi, Im a new and proud owner of a 79 vette. I dont know really anything about cars, so I wanted to use this car as a way to learn, hense the reason I joined this forum. If anyone has the patients to help me with a couple of problems Im having It would be most appreciated. My first project with this car is the fact that It is running rich and wont pass emmissions. I was told that there was a couple of screws that need to be tightened on the carberator that control the amount of fuel that is injected, but I cant find them and I dont know what they look like. as far as I know I have a LT1 350 motor, and I will post pics of it soon. any suggestions would be awesome. thanx

I suspect whoever told you that was speaking about the idle mixture screws. HOWEVER- if the car was running right and then developed a problem, it's very, very unlikely that adjusting the idle mixture will correct your problem(s).
There are a couple of possibilities- and not one of them is something I'd recommend you attack without having someone around that is very knowledgeable about carbs and rebuilding them.
One thing you CAN and SHOULD do is look for vacuum lines that are disconnected and/or damaged. If you get a vacuum leak, (which, BTW is common on these old Vettes) it'll run like crap.
Please understand, I'm NOT trashing you for not knowing and wanting to learn. Just don't want you to make a mistake that will cost you $$$. Find your local Corvette club. Join, ask questions, get help. Better yet, there WILL be someone willing to teach you- that knowledge is worth BIG $$

I definetly cant afford that right now. my speedometer and odemeter are not working, what are some steps to finding out what is wrong and to fix it. Im also wanted to buy an in structional book to help me with my lack of knollegde i fixing my vette, any suggestions. thanx, if you could post link, that would be awesome

The factory service manuals are here:
http://www.helminc.com/helm/welcome_retail_chv.asp?style=helm&mscsid=6BURL4X9UEVK8HF6LRN61WBGWVWFFFFF
IMHO, the only decent manuals. Also, do a search for the AIM (Assembly Information Manual). With those 2 books anything is possible.
As for your speedo- check the cable. It runs from the trans up to the speedo- Do you have Cruise control? Could be an easy fix.

Awesome, I appreciate it, yeah I have cruise control but the wire that goes through my signal changer it severed and is dangling, so I cant use my signal lights and the cruise control button was on the end of the lever. but hehehe, to answer the question yes I have cruise control. Im assuming that Im going to want to replace the speedo cord but get one that has cruise control with it?

Your speedo cable runs from the trans, up to the engine compartment where the cruise transducer is, then a 2nd cable goes to the speedo head. Take the cable that runs to the speedo off and you should be able to spin it and make the speedo move- good place to start. If the speedo moves, raise the rear off the ground and remove the other cable from the transducer- have someone turn the rear wheels and see if that cable turns. A fairly common failure is the cruise transducer.
Changing the turn signal lever is not a real big deal either. PITA, but not a big deal.
