: FOB is bad
MarxZiesXR 05-02-2010, 08:41 AM Alright had to bump this as a new thread to get some info. My FOB is definitely bad. I can hear something loose. Put a new battery in it and it still acted the same. How can I go about replacing these. Ovbiously the dealer, but we all know that will be expensive. Any other solutions or ideas? Thanks in advance, M!.:bump2:

Big T Machine 05-02-2010, 11:52 AM Are you sure the rattle isn't the auto arming for the alarm? As I recall, before 2000 the Vettes had a system that automatically locked the doors, and the fob had a piece in it that was the activating device. It would make a rattling noise as it moved. But I guess if it doesn't work when reprogrammed through the DIC then it wouldn't matter. As for new fobs, I think a guy named Gene Culley has the best prices, he can be found on the "other" forum. I got a good deal on a new fob for my 2000 from his company and it works like a champ!

Blue 92 05-02-2010, 12:11 PM Another issue some people see with the fobs is that some of the chips on the board lose connectivity. A quick hit with a soldering iron fixes it.
Junkman2008 05-02-2010, 01:19 PM I've got 4 fobs for my car. Both are matching 1/2 pairs. Three came from eBay for less than $30.
No brainer.

69.95 cheaper than the one I got lol. Mine was 139.00 brand new with 12 month warranty OEM.
MarxZiesXR 05-02-2010, 03:57 PM EBAY huh, I will have to check that out. Mine is a 99 are there differences in the FOBs and will I have to get it programed to work with the car? Thanks for all the good info already. M:sm_party:
Junkman2008 05-02-2010, 05:09 PM Your fobs will cost more, but the eBay price beats paying retail for them. As for programming, the instrcutions are in your owners manual.
Big T Machine 05-02-2010, 09:22 PM Yeah, any new remote will have to be programmed through the DIC, and NOT just re-synched. Otherwise, all anyone would have to do is have a remote, press and hold the two buttons to sync, and then they would be able to to get into the car they were standing next to.

You can find the owner's manual for every C5 (and then some), right here (http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/index.html).
