I was wondering what your thoughts were on the overall safety of the C4 corvette. With all the little things that go on with them, do you ever feel not safe in your C4?

I always feel safe in my vette, sometimes more than some of the newer cars that i have driven. Some of the build quality on these newer cars are a little suspect if you ask me. As far as the little things that go on with them, remember these cars are now 14-26 years old depending on what year you own, show me a vehicle that old that doesn't have a few things that need tweeking.

Although the C4 is not as structurally sound as the later cars, I feel safer in my C4 than I did when I had my C6. Why? B/c I am in control if my C4. In my C6 a computer drove the car (controls everything). Statistically, the later cars are much more safe, but it didn't "work" for me.

What the provious poster asked. What "little things" are you concerned about?

Exactly! I was lurking around the C6 section on a forum and there was a post about the car veering sharply to the right very suddenly. The problem was the steering sensor had gone bad and over corrected for a problem that didn't exist. I'd rather drive my own car thank you.

Being a fairly new owner I sometimes am mainly worried about reliabilty and a breakdown more than anything in a large city with fast freeways. The one thing that concerns me that I have not asked about in this forum are the brakes. I read in a review once the 87 felt like they were hard to brake. I had mine checked by a mechanic who owns the same car and he said mine were fine. It just feels like I have to mash the heck out of them and they don't want to stop like they should. I guess I like that feeling as if I am going to fly through the glass. It makes me feel a little uncomfy so I give plenty of room ahead of me.

As long as it's running, I feel good and safe driving it :). They are older cars, things will come up that you have to fix(92-96, opti. spark -.-)

Unlike other Vettes I've been in, the C4, to me, is a car that you don't just drive, you strap it on (insert pun here). I love the way the seat feels, how it holds me in with no movement through very tight turns, and I feel completely safe in it. I've now driven both a C5, and a C6 and I just didn't get that same feeling.

I believe a Corvettes safety is on a par with any other car of the time it was built. Probably better than most. The most dangerous thing about any car is it's driver.

Well I wouldn't want to get into a wreck with any of the Corvettes, I don't think any of them are good in any sort of accident, atleast thats what I've seen.

Can't be much worse than whats out there now and the driver is going to make a big difference.

go to youtube and look up police chase-corvette at 165 mph. This is the only video of a c4 crash i've ever seen. I still don't know how to post videos.

It's a good example of how well the C4 holds together but I'd say the y were traveling no more than 100 or so. Either that or I'll sell the C4 and buy a used cop car.
