I have gone through 2 batteries during last year alone, the auto parts guys is saying that the alternator must be bad? I need to replace this anyway, should I stick with the original or would there be any benefits of going to a larger alternator?

Just stick with OEM and you will be fine. I don't really know why you went through two of them last year but hopefully that was just a freak occurance!

A bigger alternator is nice with a normal sized battery but really shines with a big battery so unless you have a stereo or kick *** ignition or something like that the OEM spec stuff should work fine

I use to go through a lot a batteries in my 85. The GM batteries seem to last 2 years at the most. I replaced it with a Die Hard about 5-6 years ago and I have not had any battery problems since.
GM batteries suck IMO.

Dont know if you have a digital dash but I did the same thing with my '84 sent the dash out and told the vendor that it was creating a draw on the battery and it came back good as new no problems for 2 years good luck Steddie
