I ended up getting an automatic because I just don't drive a manual that well, there I said it! lol I get alot of people that say, "how can you drive a Vette with an auto?" I just tell them it's super easy, just put it in drive! lol

I can understand that. Personally I got the auto to keep myself from getting in to much trouble. A stick makes me want to push a car to hard. Plus I just want to cruise with the car, not act I like a 16 year old anymore or I won't be able to afford insurance!:rockon6rk:

my 85 was stick this one is an A4. Between those 2 cars I got hit head on by a drink driver in a dodge dually Hit me doing 100 mph and crushed the vehicle I was driving guy was drunk and left me for dead. maybe why I hate dodge d$%^s so much? But It broke my hip and was hard to shift the 85 at the time so I traded for the c5 auto. I bought a crapper honda thats stick Ill will practise with that for a year to see If the hip can handle it. But it seems every time I shift it my hip and knee pops like all he// . But I think for drag racing I prefer the auto I run the same times all day long its great for bracket racing I like to turn lemons into lemonade.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Easy on the Dodge! That's like saying you hate guns when really it's about the person responsible behind the trigger. Hate the person not what was used. I'll get off my :soapbox: now. Auto are way better for bracket racing. Wish I could find a place around here and I would start up again with it. Got any vids from your runs?:sm_party:

So you notcie the attitudes of Dodge truck owners too? their motto is "If you can't dodge it, ram it!" I hate that but I have seen this slogan on a lot of Dodges. Sorry about you accident though.

The stick shift in a vette is basically useless and a pain for everyday driving. I say this because I have had stick vettes before and found myself starting out in 2nd and then shifting to 4th because of the gearing. Whereas the auto is just so much nicer, smoother and faster, yes faster.............on the street!

Z06= no choice.
But I can see others points of view on the getting stuck in traffic bit.
Personally, I go to work at 1:30AM and come home before any afternoon traffic sets in, so no worries there.
But honestly, I would have chosen a manual even if I didn't get a Z06.
Just my preferance.

I guess I am lucky, I have one of each. My '73 is a 4-speed and I am almost always by myself in it, so I like to run her through the gears and enjoy myself. For that car a manual just seems a natural choice, plus it has very few options (no PW, no A/C, didn't have PS but I added all the factory correct pieces because its a bear to turn with wide tires and a cup of joe in one hand). But it is a hassle in traffic, but I try to not to get out when its crowded. Now, my 2000 vert is an automatic because it is a nice weekend cruiser, and my lady can't drive a stick in case I have a heart attack or some kind of emergency where she might need to drive. And when its out there is more traffic in town, and I use it for small trips out of town, too. Makes it easier to enjoy. And it's a lot easier to drive if I have my new dog with me, he loves to go for a ride and flirt with the ladies! Speaking of, my lady is with me every weekend in the 2000, and my right hand has better things to do then than be busy with a gear lever! :hehehe:

Well the C4 being my daily driver I looked for AT. Now later on in the future I plan on getting either a C5 or C6 MT as a weekend driver.

Ordered my first Vette in 75, an automatic coupe. Even after installing a B&M shift kit I still missed stick.
Bought my second Vette, an 87 convertible with an auto. The drop top was a big improvement but I still missed stick.
I finally got it right on my third Vette, an 02 SuperCharged six speed roadster.....:burnout:

my old car was an auto an I regretted it whole whole time I owned it. So when I was looking for a vet a manual was the only choice. Its more fun. whats the point of having a vet. autos are for old boring people that dont want to throw out there hip pushing the clutch. :happy0045: plus I dont drive my vet everyday.

I have a 6 speed for one reason, 2nd gear, wow that sucker pulls in 2nd, plus I don't have to use it as a DD so I can put up with shifting when I do drive it.

But still, 2nd gear, wow:woowoo:

I know a few of my buddies that could afford the new Z06 but didn't want them because they had only manual trannys so they passed. The idea of getting stuck in traffic with a 6 speed is not appealing to many of us!

I really wanted the stick but when I was looking I determined that most of the cars I was seeing would need a clutch soon and opted to get the A4. One less thing to worry about.

Personally I love my 6 spd. But I think 3rd:backstabber: gear is the awesome gear to be in at low speeds.

Automatic is fine for my Tahoe & company car.

Realistic reason behind my choice for the automatic, three reasons: First, regardless of what you may read on a website, take the auto vs the stick in a race, you will NOT see any difference, because the lag in a non-professional drivers shift time, it equalizes that partial second difference that may exist...SECONDLY, I live in Houston...my 20 mile drive to work takes over 40 minutes, make sense? I'm not trying to shift 160 times in 20 miles, auto is move convenient. Finally, I like to stick my right hand on the sexy left leg of my girl rather than on the shifter...it works for me idk about you all...

My C-4 is auto, my C-5 is stick. I didn't choose them for the trans., but they each have there advantages and disadvantages. There is no such thing as a bad Corvette!::thtoppoints:

I ordered my car so the choice was totally mine. I got the 6-speed because I do not live in a congested traffic area and I knew I would not be driving my car that much either. Besides, I absolutely love changing gears. Most of the Corvettes I've had were straight drives.

I buy automatics......I like to go to the drag strip and win eliminators not just play. I don't like to do things the hard way. I have raced against these 600 horse power killer cars with sticks that just spin or bog and can't run the same number twice. They loose every time.

my old car was an auto. I always regretted buying it. So when I was looking at vettes a stick was a must have. I have two work trucks and a honda accord. The vette is the fun car. only put 2000 miles on it last year. I love having a stick. but I can see how if it was my daily driver an auto might be easier to drive. Also my first car when I was 16 was a stick. So driving a stick is like riding a bike to me. thanks

one more thing the AT the standard equipment and the MT is an optional (cost extra). except on Z06 comes standard. Also MT get better gas mileage. Mine gets 32mpg going 70mph on cruise in 6th gear. thanks
