: Tasteful body kits for C4's?
PhillyEd 02-23-2008, 07:17 AM Is there such a thing? Only one I have found which is way to :willy_nilly: much for me is the Greenwood kits.
What kits are out there, its a '88 that I'm just looking for a little edge to it. Has anyone done anything different with the hood?

Some have gone with the Toledo Pro hood. It's one of the better looking and fitting hoods on the after-market:cheers:
Comes in std fibreglass, lightweight glass and CF.
There's also the Callaway if you can get one. A few others out there if you do a search...stalker, etc.
PhillyEd 02-24-2008, 07:11 AM I've made note of the hood that you recommended, I have been trying to find a Callaway kit and those I believe must have been in such low #'s out there it will be near impossible to find one.
Thanks for all the help, if you think of any other options please let me know.

khan2305 02-25-2008, 05:27 AM To be honest with you I don't think that there is a really nice looking body kit for the C4s. Most, if not all of them look pretty cheesy and look like they come from that Greenwood company!! Whoops I hope I won't get in trouble for bashing a company here!!:smack:
Motsiv2 03-03-2008, 07:50 PM I agree. Why screw up a good thing. The C4 has great lines. After market add ons just trash the looks.
heyunclecharlie 03-04-2008, 05:40 AM I love the way my C4 looks and I don't think that I would ever change it. The only things that I will be doing (when I get some extra $) is a few small mods for the engine bay!!
HDGuy42 03-04-2008, 10:05 AM Hmmm....I like mine jsut the way it is.
Perhaps "Tasteful body kits for C4" is an oxymoron.

:iagree: C4 lines are amazing and shouldn't need to be messed with.
cmcbunch 03-06-2008, 06:15 AM Someone needs to design a body kit that aleviates the front end lift issue without gauding the car up like the greenwood(no offense greenwood guys).

I guess my vette is tasteless, guady, and cheesy. Thanks...

I like your body kit that is on your Vette. I think that it is subtle and clean looking.

Thank you, although the rear is a little more aggressive.

What kit is on your car? Any more pics you can share? I don't like how high the stock C4's can look but didn't know there was really any options.

The kit is a 11 piece Greenwood Motorsport Kit.

Honestly, I have never liked the Greenwood kits. The cars I have seen just didn't do anything for me. I will say I really like your car after seeing the photos. Did you buy the car that way or did you install those yourself? If you did install: easy/hard?
Thanks
Ed
bkp916 03-15-2008, 08:57 AM Thanks, I had it installed. The body shop was repairing the 'keying' somebody did to my car 2 months after I got it. There was some paint left over from the repair so I decided why not use it on a kit.

Either way it looks good. That is a metallic green?

That kit looks good. I haven't gotten around to any sort of body mods on my '94. Not sure if I would do the wing but the rest looks like a nice touch. Makes it look alot more sporty.
wmr9370 03-19-2008, 10:01 AM If you are still looking for a Callaway Kit there's one on e-bay right now.
TARTAN96 03-21-2008, 02:30 PM I've loved the C4's styling since I first saw it in 84 and never saw the need to embelish it until I discovered the late lamented Larry Shinoda's Rick Mears 91 bodykit -IMHO a beautiful evolution of the original Jerry Palmer concept..... but try to get a hold of one !!!!!
have a look at my gallery & see what you think.
anyone know a good fiberglass fabricator ?????
Fraser
Pirate 03-22-2008, 04:47 AM It's a love/hate relationship for me with the Shinoda design:lol:
I like the rear, sort of Specter Works-ish, but keeps the round tail lights:cheers: But it's too long for me:(
I don't care for the front chin spoiler, but love the molded in lights. If the pop up's were smooted in and the hood smooth, making the lower lights functional, that'd be better IMO. Then uses a deeper front valance for the fogs/running and/or brake vents:cheers:
Oh well, I'm still looking and drawing....

I would have to see it in person. I didn't like the greenwood kit when I saw it in a catalog, but when I saw it in person it was a different story. I don't like how photographs flatten out the dimensional aspect that these kits bring to the table.
The smokinvette's have body modifications that I bet look more apparent in person than they do in a photograph.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I agree with you. Photos don't do justice on many of these kits and their lines. Some may look better in person where others are going to look better in the catalogs, making it a role of the dice!
Vettemaniac 05-02-2008, 11:43 AM I've got an '85 that I've had ground effects installed on and I also got off of ebay a cowl scoop that has now been grafted into my stock hood. This cowl scoop is about 2" shy of being as long as the entire hood. It is a bit similar in appearance of the old 427 hood scoop on the forward end and more smooth curves along the sides heading back towards the windshield. I'm not in any way a computer guru, but will try to get someone I know to help me post a pic or two of my hood for you. I may even have the paperwork of when I got the scoop off of ebay and that will have the sellers user name from ebay, where you could do a search.
I get a lot of comments about the overall installation on the car, but one thing I will tell anyone who is considering doing this,"Front spoilers WILL suffer damage when driving your vette!" My biggest problem, out here in SoCal, is jack rabbits! I've had to replace three spoilers already.....just because of them! At 65, hitting a big(or small)jack can break it in two pieces in the blink of an eye! Ah, the price you pay to have what you want.

Tell me about it... love to see pics of that hood though.

I think your body kit looks terrific. Very nice presentation and update on what may be a wonderful 80s/90s design but is, frankly, aging.
There are a lot of C4 folks who are purists. That's fine. But with these really nice, but inexpensive toys, for me it's important to realize the personal enjoyment you can get from it.
You like your kit so it's not really very important whether anyone else does. But I think it looks great. You have me interested in checking into it for mine. Thanks!
Lots of C4ers don't want to mess with their cars because of "future value." Thats not really a serious issue. C4s just aren't worth very much...and, frankly, won't be in the future either unless you have one of the rare models we're all aware of.
Same holds true for mileage. :driving: Should drive it all you want and enjoy. The few dollars more the low mileage C4s--even the VERY low ones--doesn't really amount to much unless you're young and/or living on a shoestring. Just my view.

If you don't like how high the stock C4 looks you can lower it. Mine was lowered 1 1/2" by the previous owner.

Are those C5 wheels you have on yours? Can you post a side shot?

Are those c6 mono sport wheels in your avatar?
CorvetteMongo 05-10-2008, 04:04 PM Just my 2 centavos here...but on my 88 I put the keech side pipes (exhaust was shot on the car when I bought it) with the GreenWood Ground Effects....The side pipes sound great, and gives it a little different look than most of the GreenWood cars....I am planning on putting the hood scoop and louvers on next time I get home.
The side pipes went on VERY easy, I think I spent about 6 hours, but was killing time, I think 3 or 4 would do it.
There is an album of the car here.....
http://pbase.com/mongo69
It has an album by its self, and a few other pictures in the House album, and with some of the models.
As has already been said, you ain't going to hurt the value of a C4 by altering it...doubtful they will ever be worth much real money...so make it the way you want it.....

Ya, well I hope "it" don't taste like a clam...
Besides, I thought you guys were suposed to be lookin at the car photos...
2jakes 05-11-2008, 12:08 AM When it comes to "these" bearded clams.....there's an old saying, "If it smells like fish eat all you wish, if it smells like colone leave it alone."
