I was wondering how powder coating will hold up to engine heat and such? I have a 1979 C3 with stock 350. I'm thinking the alternator, valve covers, water pump, etc? Can I powder coat these parts and will it keep its color?

Some engine oils, fuels and cleaners can stain or discolor the powder coating. The other thing is, powder coating will hold in heat and not allow the engine to disapate heat in these areas. Its even the same with chrome dress-up kits. Chrome will hold in heat. If your looking for show and very little driving, then go for it, but if your looking for a driver, i would pass. I think the coating would be more of a pain to maintain than it would be worth.
But this is just me.....

I do quite a bit of powder coating and it actually works out very good on accesories such as water pump,p/s pump, alt, valve covers. i like to use it on alumminum parts makes for easy clean up no polishing just wipe them down. just recently rebuilt my front suspension and powder coated all the parts, looks good and will hold very well. do not use it on high heat parts it will not work.
