I couldn't believe that I heard this from a fella the other day?
I'm not a mechanic, but don't you need the thermostat in order for the car to run correctly?

yes want to keep it at normal running temp

A thermostat regulates coolant flow to maintain a constant operating temperature.
Going without one is a bad idea.

Some people think they know more than the ones that design the engine in the first place to have a Tstat.

Sure you can run without a thermostat, until you crack something. The thermostat keeps the fluid at a uniform level throughout the engine. Without it the engine will have fluids that don't get circulated and they will overheat. Usually the overheating occurs at the rear of the engine. Of course the engineers may not really know what they are doing and are just trying to sell thermostats. My guess is that they know what they are doing. :thumbsup3:

An engine needs a thermostat so it will warm up quickly to the desired minimum operating temperature (195 degrees). Then once the engine reaches that minimum temperature, the radiator determines how hot it will ultimately get.

It's on the car for a reason, leave it there.

I agree, if GM put it in then it must need it.

Keep it in, there's no point in taking it out, combustion works better at the engineered temps. THere is also a theory that running an engine too cool will damage the rings.
