I would like to drive my '84 Vette the whole length of Route 66 in May 2010. Is there anyone out there who has done that? Is it practical as low as a Vette sets to the ground? I know there are sections of the older roadway of Route 66 (Example: 1930's roadway) that have deteriorated so badly that I cannot take them. Will most of the route be OK?

From what I have read and heard most of 66 is still driveable. Route 66 passes through the city I live in. One of the local landmarks along 66 is the red round barn.
Driving the entire highway would be fun. I hope you enjoy your trip.

I believe there is a Corvette club out there that does this every year. It is my understanding that the Route 66 was moved from its original locations in some sections because the road was so deteriorated, but the new section runs alongside the old section. There is a Route 66 book, I am sure there are many, that has information about landmarks along the way. I too live near a part of Route 66. The landmark near where I am today (about 3 miles away) is the Tee-pee motel. The idea for the traffic cone shaped motel in the movie "Cars" came from that place. Have a lot of fun on your trip. I highly recommend to get a book on Route 66 so you can make stops along the way and take pictures of your vette with the landmarks.

Thanks on enjoying the trip. Is most of 66 still driveable in Oklahoma? I saw there is a gravel section after you cross from Texas to New Mexico.

You just might need a 4x4 Vette to travel the complete route now?..:burnout:
