What is the largest block/motor that will fit into a '74 without major customization? I have the body and motor off the frame and getting ready to paint the frame. I want to do this just once so I'm trying to go with the biggest motor I can. What have others done?

Not sure about the later C3's, but the early ones- like my '69, putting a 572 in is a tough game. The 572 crate engines anyway. The 572 uses a tall deck block and is wider. Clearance for headers around the steering box gets really tight. It can be done.
I'd look at going with a few less cubes (540) using a standard deck block and not have all the issues. And I'll bet that places like World, Brodix, and Dart have blocks with the standard 9.8 deck that'll go over 540.
If you want to get really crazy, Reher-Morrison has a 747 cubic incher that dyno's at 1450HP. But bring your checkbook- Aluminum ain't cheep!!
I was just flipping thru Summit's catalog= A World Merlin 9.8 deck block that'll go 632 cubic inches..
