: Edelbrocked
chappy 03-09-2010, 05:19 PM Ok fellows, here's what i have!
I have an Edelbrock set-up , cam, intake, heads, Carb etc.
I have a small carb spacer but that's all i am allowed for clearance.
Summertime of course in july, fuel perculates making it hard to start.
I have been thinking about a Scoop on the bonnet so it can breath and then i can put a larger spacer on the carb.
Need opinions please!
Thanks mates!:DeadHorse:

Wood or phenol type spacer works best to stop heat transfer to carb.
Some run a large alum plate between carb and intake to stop heated air rising to carb
ex-x-fire 03-09-2010, 06:10 PM Are you using a fuel pressure regulator & the return line? Returning fuel back to the tank helps cool the fuel down.

Granted
But you still get fuel evaporation from the carb when it sits on hot engine; especially considering the under hood heat on a C4.
However if you use a elec pump , it should replace lost fuel when key turned on where as a mech pump will require cranking of engine to do the same
BadGas 03-09-2010, 11:01 PM Have you tried a cool can?

OP doesn't state if he has elec or mech pump or what style reg.
Elec pump with bypass reg negates need for cool can as fresh (cool ) fuel always available at reg vs dead head arrangement where the fuel sits in line and soaks up engine heat.
Nothing on the fuel supply side has anything to do with heat soak in the carb; best you can do is limit heat absorbtion by the carb through insulators or isolation

I agree 100%. Some carburators will boil over and some don't. With it's very small bowl, a Rochester Quadrajet is very prone for boiling. The best cure is to insulate the carburator base from the heat underneath by using a 8" x 8" thin aluminum spacer made out of 16 gauge aluminum. And a fuel return line back to the tank keeps the incoming fuel much cooler.
chappy 03-10-2010, 02:04 PM Thanks fellows,
I am running low pressure electric pump mounted under the frame rail away from heat;
I am not running a return line or use a regulator as pump runs approx 4 psi.
Thanks fellows, i just got a wooden one ordered from Edelbrock, about $30.00, i'll give that a go!
The cool can looks good for track racing, but as a daily driver, i dont think i can be bothered to keep putting cold water in the can, if i was reading the instructions right, thanks for the advice though on that product.
ex-x-fire 03-10-2010, 05:37 PM Does your intake have the exhaust passage for the old style chokes(egr valve on some intakes too) that heats through the center? If so try blocking it off if possible.

That sounds like a awesome set up!!!
chappy 03-11-2010, 07:59 AM That sounds like a awesome set up!!!
Thanks mull, it runs out good and very smooth for an 84, pegs 140mph and tears up almost anything off the line,It's all matched 'Perfomer set up' which is one of the milder set-ups for Edelbrock, but it is very quick off the line and hits a 100mph fairly quick, i havent been whipped yet by any challenger that has honked me up to date, but you know that i will, there is always faster out there. I think the conversion was worth it and idle's beautifully and the hood Juuuust closes perfectly!!

Thats awesome! The c4's still have it!
LT1-84 03-12-2010, 05:32 PM I cut my stock hood & raised it 2 in, pic link in my sig.

You have a great set up IMO.

Thats very good Lt1, i was thinking about a scop myself too possibly.
What set up are you going with?? Edelbrock?

I have a GMPP LT1 Intake with a Edelbrock 600 carb, with this 2in scoop I have a Edelbrock drop base 14 x 3in air cleaner
