Was driving my 89 convertible the other day. As I was pulling into parking lot, lost all electric power. After about 10 seconds started getting feedback through speakers and car restarted. Had to disconnect battery to stop feedback through speakers. When I reconnected battery no more noise through speakers. Whoever had car before me had changed factory radio to aftermarket stereo. Any ideas as to problem?

Oh that definitely sounds like a short somewhere.

Have any ideas where the short might possibly be?

Just guessing but maybe loose wires on starter.

maybe loose wires
If you have an amp(s) in the car, recheck connections, and see where/what the amp power wires, and ground are hooked to.

Starter is where I would recommend looking for a loose wire.

Thanks. I'll try looking at the starter for a loose wire then I'll check the radio connections.

As the radio was changed, I would suspect the problem is in it's connections. Especially as you said you had a "feedback" coming out of the speakers. A properly connected radio never has any feedback.
