I am seriously in the market for a C3 Vette and finally found a 1970 (1969 and 1970 are my favorite years).
Bottom line, I NEED HEEEEELP!!!
What should I be looking for or avoiding while looking at the car?
I know that the brakes (calipers) could be a real issue.
This one has no power steering (wish it did) or brakes, has crack on the dash, the ac is not working (the seller says it a fan issue that the ac itself is working fine), and the steering has some play…
Paint looks pretty ok, chrome is in very good conditions, engine and trany seem ok (I drove it around for about 5 miles), has a 4 speed manual (which I love) and a 350 engine..
Asking price = 15K

Thanks,
Guido

The main thing I'd look at is to see if the floor boards have rusted through and that the frame is in good shape. Everything else sounds pretty good. Good luck with your decision..

dude, 15 grand is way too much for those types of problems. If there is any type of rust in the floor boars, or body, it is a dead beat. with the problems listed, it could take 3- 5 grand to get it street legal, let alone to what you really want. I recommend you keep lookin'.

Yeah you gotta remember tho CA and FL have wildly inflated musclecar asking prices. I was in the LA area and a guy had a 1968 elcamino with a 305 and a 4spd. It had "decent" paint. When he asked 10k for it I laughed and said how much really. He was serious! I havent even looked at a single car out here since. Its ridiculous.

Guys, I don't believe that 70 vettes have floor boards that rust. I have been under mine quite a bit and cleaned the under side of the floor pans and they are fiberglass. The parts you should be concerned about are the frame kickups just in front of the rear wheels. They are prone to rust in this area. Pull the kick panels on either side and look in the area behind them. This will tell you a little about the condition of this area and some about the windshield frame. Look at the radiator support. They will rust around the bottom where water would stand.
