So I was thinking the other day, when I remove the targa top from my car and drive around it makes a horrible cracking noise. This is because the top is a structural part of the car and it provides strength to the rest of the frame. While thinking of ways to fix this, I had the idea of removing the glass from my glass top (I would need another one first) and simply placing the frame in. Granted you would have the sides above the windows but otherwise its the same thing as going topless. Has anybody tried this, and if so had any success?

I would think that the glass would make up for a good bit of the structural integrity. Interesting nevertheless.

The targa truss is a novel idea. The thing that bugs me about it is how far above the roof line that it sits. A car naturally equipped with t-tops has its truss inset. I would think they could come up with something slicker than that with a less noticeable profile, more form fitting.

That was exactly my complaint! It looks sloppy, I don't know why they couldn't flush that with the roof line. I'll have to look for a different companies equivalent.

The square stock used in front sits on the windshield frame just like the targa top does. Would look a lot better if the front bar was more of a triangular shape.

I've never seen triangular stock sold, plus you wouldn't be able to bend it like the square stock...
Hmm, you could use the square stock and maybe bring the front bar in and behind the windshield frame if you are willing to not fold your visor up all the way. Make the front look more like the rear. Could be a fun project for my welder.

I could see people pulling on that thing to get in and out and damaging the windshield.
