It's been a while since I did the ones on my '94, but if I remember correctly it involved taking the trim panel off, putting the window all the way down and drilling the rivets holding the old pieces in. Wasn't too bad at all if memory serves.

That is right. Need to pop rivet the new ones in. I replaced both inner and outer ones on my 85.

Nice car Hookie. Don't let them get under your skin. Does it really matter to you what they say?? I think not. Not like they are family.

The outside ones were pretty easy. The inside ones were a little harder. They attach to the top trim of the door panel.

My trim is old and brittle, so I could not use a pop rivet. The factory used glue and staples. I used small machine screws and washers. Used 4 per side if I remember correctly.

Had I known, would have bought all new upper door trim with the sweep already attached.:thumbsup3:

I heard you do not have to remove the panel. You can cut the old rivets off with a sharp chisle or screwdriver take off old one put new one replace the two rivets on outer ends dont bother with the middle ones, you cant get them anyway. It will hold just fine. I am going to try this in April . This only works for the outter ones.

I do not see how this would work. You stand a good chance of F'n something up. I would not do this.:doh:

You need enough room to get the center clips to slide in and out. The only way to do that is to get the window loose. You can either remove the upper felt covered tension pads...that leads to problems getting them readjusted after. Or you can remove the lower stop and let the window down far enough to get at the seal...careful you don't bounce it off the tracks while down.
Instead of using rivets to reinstall i like cutting 2 sheetmetal screws short enough to grab into the holes. If the fiber glass is cracked or rotting you can fill the holes with epoxy and gently turn in the screws to get a bite. After the epoxy dries it allows for removal and reinstall since it formed threads for you. Just make CERTAIN that you get the screws short enough that they don't go through the panel and push out (crack) the paint.
I also prefer to reach in with a dremil tool and grind the rivets out...fiber reinforced cut-off wheel is best.

Well I don't remember how much they cost, I just remember it's a ridiculous price for no more than what you're actually getting. Like pretty much everything else on the car, it's either hard to find or just supply and demand in general so they can charge as much as they want. I had mine replaced while other work was being done on my car so I have no idea what it involved. Just remember to take a towel every once in awhile and wipe between the strips (maybe every time you wash the car or something) and get the dirt and dust out of the felt part or it will put scratches in your tint eventually, unless you plan to leave the windows up and never roll them down lol. It's surprising how dirty the towel gets even with new strips.

Here's some on eBay right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1984-96-Corvette-Outer-Door-Window-Seals-Pair_W0QQitemZ190376791996QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotor s_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2c53574fbc You can watch over a few days and see if you might find a better price. Here's another listing where the wipe has been bent (something you can straighten and use.) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1984-96-Corvette-RH-Outer-Door-Window-Seal-Damaged_W0QQitemZ160407917291QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMo tors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item25590e92 eb Good post on how to do the work, DRMZ07! And I agree with WayBack about using a chisel to cut pop rivets. The composition of our fiberglass does not lend itself well to shock, and, personally I think this is a real bad idea. (I used to be an engineer where the 'Vette body parts were molded, and I speak from experience.)

You will find that it is not all that difficult of a job.
