I've read some older post about this and just wanted to ask for clarification: If you swapped out automatic transmission AND computers in car to what comes in a manual transmission C6, wouldn't that work?

It will "work". You will have to cut the car's firewall, install a clutch pedal assembly, clutch switch, master cylinder, replace the bellhousing, install a slave cylinder, replace the flywheel, install a clutch, reprogram the ECU, etc etc...
Then you will have a hacked up car with very poor resale value.
A much better proposition is to sell this car and buy a manual, IMHO.

:iagree: I knew it was a PITA and not recommended. But wasn't aware you had to cut firewall?? Why is that?

How else will the clutch pedal inside the car actuate the master cylinder in the engine bay?

How else will the clutch pedal inside the car actuate the master cylinder in the engine bay? Maybe the opening is already there. I do not remember cutting the firewall on my Camaro when I swapped from A4 to M6. Seems unlikely that GM would make two firewalls depending upon the tranny. Better to make one for the M6 and cover the hole when the A6 is used.

Not sure, on every car I've seen it is not there... I can tell you for instance that the hole for the power cable on the C6 is NOT there even though the C6 shares a firewall with the C6Z06... They must drill that hole at the factory post production.

Wasn't aware that there was a difference from manual to auto firewall. Would have thought to save cost GM made a universal set up.

:iagree: that is what I thought.

It is; the holes are drilled afterwards, not molded in.

I know someone who is in the same boat. He bought a Auto and after having the car, changed his mind and wants a Manual transmission.
