Again I'm doing some homework on possible new engine mods and these were brought up in discussion between a buddy and I. I may be picking up a new long block and trying to figure out what internals I want inside it.

I was told LS7 lifters are the way to go...

:iagree: my tuner was telling me the same thing a few weeks ago.

You may want to look at Comp Cams new Pro Magnum lifter for the LS engines.

COMP CamsŪ Pro Magnum Hydraulic Roller Lifters™ are specifically designed to perform at higher engine speeds. When engines are equipped with a hydraulic camshaft, high rpm is limited by the improper position of the internal piston as the lifter inevitably "pumps up". This improper location results in open valves and therefore leads to lost power or sometimes even engine failure. NOTE: These lifters require an adjustable valve train (check here (http://www.compperformancegroupstores.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=CC&Category_Code=GEN3ROCKERS) for adjustable valve train components), and must be pre-loaded to .002" to .004" for proper operation!

OTHER!!!! I aswell as a lot of others have had the CTS lifters fail cuasing some serious damage. I am currently running the LS7 lifters without any issues.

How are they failing? Or rather what is happening?

I was under the impression that when lifters fail it is a non destructive event? Don't they just fail to pump up causing reduced valve lift?

Generally the roller assembly fails causing destruction of the camshaft and sending metal all over the engine. We've seen it happen and it's ugly.

The CTSV-R lifters seem to be more prone to this than the standard LS7 lifter. I think they may be a lighter design but too light in the roller area.

Well that is good reason alone to stay away from those. I would be pi$$ if I just had the new engine installed then have to have it pulled and rebuilt because lifter blew up!
