If my water pump is leaking in my 1994 should I replace the gasket? Or replace the gasket and the pump? I have just over 89,000 miles?

Thanks

Adam

well in my opinion, if you are going to be taking off the water pump anyways and you are at that many miles, a new water pump is not that much so I would get a new one and install it all at once.

Update: I replaced both the gasket and the water pump and no leaks!

Returning to this post I wanted to ask if anyone is using one of those electric water pumps in their C4? I was reading that at idle the motor is getting more circulation than with the stock belt driven water pump?

The electric water pumps work great on a race cars but not so good for the street. The 94 LT-1 water pump has no belt it is driven off the cam shaft, Stay with the stock pump.

I agree with this statement. We are running electric pumps on both of our vettes, however they are both highly modded. I have a friend that put one on his stock C5 and he has had a few problems with it, nothing huge, but I think that if your engine is stock or close to stock that you won't really benefit from putting an electric pump on it.

Ok so stick with the stock one? Less work for me. :)

I have a 1988 c-4. Can anyone tell me what the huge balancer looking thing is that is hanging off of my waterpump. This thing must weigh about 25 lbs. It is on the outside of the water pump pulley. It seems as if I took it off the engine would perform better but I don't really know what it does so I alittle leary. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
