Dumb question: Why are some rotors drilled and slotted? I understand to disperse heat. But why is it some performance rotors don't have the drilled or slotted rotors? Is this more for show? Is there a benefit of having both or does that shave down the brake pads quicker? Like a cheese grater?

D/S rotors are for show. Performance wise they do not work better than Slotted only or Blank rotors. On the track we have found the D/S rotors crack faster than all of the other rotors.

Slotted Rotors will take away some of the glazing that happens to brake pads. I have slotted for my track rotors although I was just as satisfied with blank rotors.

Blank rotors are perfectly fine for stopping your car. Until I moved to Wilwood setup I would use blank rotors from rockauto for both street and track. Sure they cracked on the track (so far all rotors do), but they were cheap $120 delivered to your door and performance wise they were good (figure a blank rotor has more metal for a pad to grab on to).

That being stated if you are not a high speed weekend warrior type of person and you do not partcipate in track days then D/S rotors are just fine and they look good.
