My wife is also from Vietnam. I met her here but we have been to Vietnam twice. First trip we spent a week in Thailand, 3 days in Singapore and 3 weeks in Vietnam. 2nd trip we spent 4 days in Hong Kong and 4 weeks in Vietnam. We have talked about having a winter home in Da Lat after we retire. We have also been to Hawaii twice and to Mexico, Rome and Egypt.
This my wife.

Dan Dlabay 02-26-2010, 07:56 AM You have a pretty wife. Before I met my wife I had no desire to go to Vietnam. But after we got married I became curious about her country. At first she did not what to go back (all her family is here) because she has some bad memories. The first 21 years of her life was war and her dad who was a Major in the South Vietnamese army was killed in battle in 1966. After the fall of Siagon she had to spend 2.5 years in a so called re educational camp just because her dad was a high ranking officer in ARVN. She then spent until 1989 in a closed country under communist rule. She became curious about how much Vietnam had changed since she left now that it was open. We decided to go in 2000. After visiting Thailand and Singapore we arrived in Siagon Her brother had gone back and gotten married and his wife was still living in Siagon and they wanted us to stay with her and her mom. What was nice was that staying with them enabled me to see how the ordinary Vietnamese live (not from a tourist view) The first full day there we were in a cab and went by the American consulate. She looked out the window and then said to me "I know there has been change here" and I said we haven't been here 24 hours yet how do you know. She then pointed to the American flag and said I thought I would never see that flag in this country again. As for the food I gained 6.5 lbs. on that trip because I wanted to try everything except dog. I know some people there eat it and that's their business. But to me a dog is a pet (we have 2 and 1 cat). We spent time in Siagon, Na Trang and Da Lat. On the second trip in 2007 we went to Siagon, Vung Tau, NaTrang Da Nang, Hue.Hai Pong, Ha Long bay. Have you ever been to Ha Long bay? It is really pretty.

wmcm159 03-30-2011, 01:20 PM SE Asia is somewhere I haven't been yet but I'd like to see it some day. I've spent a lot of time in western Europe and I do love the south of France, its a great place...
Pappytinker 03-30-2011, 02:15 PM For some reason I have less than no desire to see Southeast Asia again. I have, however, visited every state in the US except Alaska and some of them several times.
vettex2 03-30-2011, 03:13 PM When I picked my C5 at the factory I had 12k miles in six weeks driving home
My 600th mile was on the track at Indy
I visited so many race tracks I lost count
From Tennesee to DC , to Niagra to Florida to Ca. and just about everything to see in between....hitting tracks and museums everyday.
Got to watch Cal Ripken at a home game.....great trip all in all
With all there is in this country , I have no real desire to go overseas......
