How do you know which Cam will work the best for you? Every shop I speak to tells me something different? Its for a 2004 C5 6 speed. The only performance mod that I have done is a Vararam. I would like a little more zoom zoom and muscle sound while still keeping the car as a daily driver?
I have been told its good to go with a head and cam package rather than just a Cam?

We typically suggest that customers have a good set of longtubes (Kook's or LG's), full header-back exhaust and a cold air kit before doing a cam. You won't see anywhere near the full potential of the cam unless you free up the intake/exhaust of the motor.
Once that's taken care of and you're looking to do a cam we'd ask what sort of plans you have for the future of the car (turbo or supercharger down the road?) and what sort of goals you have for the car (specific hp, quarter mile time, drivability, etc.).
A cam that works well for a naturally aspirated setup might have too much overlap for a supercharger setup down the road, etc. So future plans should be taken into consideration unless you like spending money twice. Cylinder heads aren't a must but are recommended as the additional labor to swap them while doing the cam install is very little, so if you plan on doing cylinder heads later you might as well do heads/cam at the same time to save yourself on labor/tuning.
With a stock bottom end we recommend not going much over the stock redline. The stock rod bolts can stretch at higher rpms and spin the bearings = rebuild. With that in mind if you don't have a built bottom end or plan on doing one there is no point in choosing a cam that is going to make power past redline, since the power isn't usable you are just sacrificing power at lower rpm's for no reason.
Hope that steers you in the right direction. If you let us know your plans for the car I'm sure we can help you pick the right cam!

:iagree: Not to mention all the little intricacies with dynamic compression that the cam affects rather radically. Also, make sure you ask a professional who knows cam designs and doesn't simply go to the "go-fast-bin".

Thanks that was helpful. I have decided to pick me up a Magnuson supercharger. More power and it sounds beefy.
Thanks guys.
