Hi... On my 86 to put the top down you release the levers above the visors then reach under the rear deck and pull the handle horizontally toward the drivers side to release the latches that hold the rear frame of the top to the deck. The two pins should audibly release. Pull the rear of the top forward enough to lift the rear deck to its full open position. Then lower the rear of the top enough to allow it to slip down into the well. Fold the rest of the top into the well, close the rear deck and enjoy the sunny day. FYI... If your electric hatch release malfunctions you can still open the hatch by pulling the black looped cable (manual release) that should be visible directly behind each seat and near the outer trim. If your rear top release under the rear deck the malfunctions ( the cables can break as they age) you can reach under the lid and manually release each latch by pushing on the toggle arm on each side with your thumb. Sounds like a hassle but it only takes about 45 seconds to accomplish. Hope this helps.....Carl

I know how you feel! When I got mine, the "transverse lock release" cables were already toast. :eek2: But the previous owner had looped a couple of pieces of wire on the release pins, so once I saw that, I was home free :Irule: Always something, right? Hope you enjoy this site as much as I have. I've received many very helpful tips here!
