I'm looking high and low for all the parts that I need. I found a drive train from a '85 that I can get pretty inexpensive. Could this fit in a '73? How much modification or will it be a direct fit?

It should bolt in. You will have irritating issues, possibly like driveshaft length and spline pattern. The electrical and fuel systems are different, but if you use the stuff from your C-3, it should be relatively easy. Good luck.

So would the driveshaft length and spline pattern from the C4 work here or will this route require something custom? I appreciate the help.

Eh, well yes and no....as for the engine, a '88-91 vette engine is a better choice, coming with aluminum heads, roller block/cam, and all good on the serp drive, being a basic plug in....the L98 fits grandly under stock hood, use the oval K/N TPI filter....I went up and over but had to reverse hinge my hood to make that work....that or 4 hood pins....

the 700 tranny should NOT be used, however, a much better choice for a shark is the 200 4r tranny but it's a BOLT IN....no driveshaft issues, no mounting issues, no tunnel issues, just plug it up and go....most flex plates are dual pattern so you can use either t/converter.....not only that, the 200 is supposed to be some 50 lbs lighter....same o/drive ratio....and it's simple to overhaul, I did mine, so you can too...just READ the books....

Well you have given me help, let me help you out here. I have been on various import forums for a long time so getting up on this one was easy. Save a photo for your avatar (this site allows avatars no bigger than 150x150) on your desktop. When you are logged in here go up on the top and click where it says "profile". Once you are in there on the left hand menu it should say something like "edit avatar". Click on that and scoll down and click on the "browse" button and find your avatar that you saved on your desktop and hit ok, then hit "save changes" and you are good!
