I think a seal or my tank is bad. I've noticed when I fill my tank up and park it over night in the garage when I come out in the morning there has been a gas smell and small puddle of gas under where the gas tank is? Is there an easy way to tell what is happening here?
Or will I need to drop the tank to see if its the seal or tank? Will a tank rust out?

Looks like you have a 73, and yes they can and do rust out. I just got mine all back together from paint and noticed the same thing on mine. I crawled around in the back and found a spot that looked like a small gas leak. I took a shop rag and wiped the small spot off to see where the leak was coming from. All this did was make the leak worse. I knew my tank was mostly empty so I got a 5 gallon bucket and a screwdriver. Put the bucket under the leak and started poking around near the leak and punched right through with no problem. My leak was near the tank straps.

If it happens only when you fill up, check your overflow hose. It could be rotten or off. If your garage is warmer than the gas, it could be expanding and overflowing. How is your gas cap? Good luck.

Thank you all for the advice I will check the overflow hose first. Gas cap seems to be in good shape.
Eddie 70 - Did you repair for tank or get a new one?

I had the same problem it was the over flow hose. Good luck with yours.

I spent the money and bought a new one. There was no repairing that tank. It was thin in several spots. I would check the hose he is talking about first. That would be an cheap and easy fix.
