looks like a light front bumper and passenger side quarter panel how hard is this to do yourself ? and whats the cost in it
rayosequis 12-18-2009, 06:53 PM Honestly, for that much plus body panels and painting them to match, and whatever else isn't readily visible, you would be better off buying a car in one piece.
hokies83 12-18-2009, 07:04 PM hmm i was thinking i could get it fixed for around 3 k
hood still looks good i donno about c5 but every body part but the hood isent crazy priced as long as this stuff isent hard to fix sure i could get help from you guys as i go
this car is 16 miles from me i just sold my c4 for $8800 so this is in my price range and i got a guy who will inspect it for me ;)
rayosequis 12-18-2009, 07:21 PM Well, I wish you luck with your project if you get it. Looking at the pictures, the pass. side rear will need a little attention as well.
Slicktop 12-18-2009, 08:46 PM That car is probably already "salvage car" titled and as such is not worth fixing, that is why it is where it is.......waiting for a sucker.
BTW salvage title cars are normally worth only about 50% of book value even after repairs.

:iagree:
You will definitely get what you pay for. It sounds like maybe you can't afford the car if you are resorting to buying that heap. Do you realize that you have no idea what else is wrong with the car and you also have no idea what those issues will cost?
Run Forest, run!
rayosequis 12-19-2009, 03:24 AM In the same sentiment as the above posters, with one more piece of advice for you: you just sold your car, so don't jump on the first one that comes along. Take your time, do your homework and you'll definetly come out ahead.
C5CHICK 12-19-2009, 05:54 AM You cant really tell without seeing it BUT I do know from my own experiences. When I had to get my front bumper fixed that cost me 3 grand alone. You cant see whats behind the damage either thats where they get you all the little peices behind the body panels. When I had the pole go threw my hood and top glass replaced was about 4 grand.
Lethal Tendencies 12-19-2009, 06:06 AM I had front bumper cover,1 fender, headlight assembly and hood was $7500
mtndv8 12-19-2009, 06:13 AM I think that would make a good 'parts' car to fix-up one worth fixing. Keep lookin', would be my advice, too.
Good Luck...

If you parted that thing out, you could make a mint.

it might seem like a good deal , but unless you have some experience in bodywork, it could cost you more than if you find one driveable the parts alone is not the total investment., there could be frame or suspension damage you don t see and even if you can replace all the damaged parts, you still got to get new parts painted.. that could run $1500-2000 at a body shop , you re painting 1/2 the car, check with one near you to see and at 90,000 miles there could easily be other issues just my opinion of course its ultimately your decision
Darryl 12-19-2009, 05:53 PM Having seen the pic's, I'm going to throw my two cents in. I've owned a few vettes in the past and I currently own a 99' Torch Red C5 FRC and I love the body style, more than the C6, anyway back to the car you found. Even with the damage seen it REALLY depends on what YOU can do! If you are going to pay someone to fix every little thing that is needed, I then agree with the others to take some time to find another. BUT!!, if you are limited at this time on the cash and have no fear of mechanical challenges and have a good core of knowledgeable friends as well as the Smokinvette guys, then go get yourself a project car. The real satisfaction is what you'll get from it when done and knowing your car inside and out. Look at all the posts in these forums and everyone's issue's, and I'm sure that 99.9% bought theirs in one piece. I like working on my own car and not having to pay someone every time a issue arises. Hey, go back and offer $5,000 and insult them. A lot of reasonable part buys on e-Bay and other places if you take YOUR time. Sorry I got long on this, but when I cut myself I bleed fiberglass.

Carlsbadride 12-20-2009, 05:23 AM Just fix it up! Should be no reason to.
Armyboy79 12-20-2009, 11:49 AM keep your money in your pocket and walk away from it. take your time looking for your dream C5 sooner or later you get one. good luck
titansfan 12-20-2009, 05:20 PM WALK AWAY!!! Looks like both airbags deployed also. Check out the interoir pics. I know airbags can be way pricey.... If you still have your $8800 from your c-4 you should be able to get a driving c-5. Especially here on the east most of us are sitting under 2ft of snow!!!!
