Just picked up new Garmin and looking for a good spot to install. Where would you recommend? Thanks

Lower left on the windshield or pillar, or as an alternative and out of your direct line of sight, just above the radio/vents.

I have thought about getting a GPS but don't want to spend the money on a built in one. Whats a good one to get for under $400?

I see everyone talking about Garmin and they have a good reputation. I got GPS for Christmas and had no idea it was coming to me. My wife picked it out without asking me. She got me a TomTom and it works flawlessly so far. We drove from my house to the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga and it put me right in the front parking lot without a miss. On the return trip I told it to map us home, again, it was directly to the interstate with no hiccups.

With all of that said, I mount mine on the windshield with the suction cup just below the mirror.
