Hi Yall, been having problems with my turnk lid not opening enough to stick my fingers to lift it and thought i needed to change the latch assembly but sprayed some dw40 and works like new. Sprayed the whole linkage area in the back sides as well as the latch. After the wd40 drys will be in some of that clear grease and know it will be even better.

It's a common problem with these trunks, especially in cold weather. Sometimes the cylinders wear out on right and left side. Replacing them usually solves the problem. Not an expensive fix. Also, there are two rubber stop adjusters. You can bring them up slightly to put some pressure on the lock assembly. Don't bring the up too far or you'll throw the alignment out. In warm weather make sure you keep a little grease on them so they don't stick. Then there is the trunk popper which handles this problem easily do a search and you will see its a good investment.

I hate that! Mine was so bad once that I would have to climb a little to the back and push on the darn hatch back!

Several vendors sell a little add-on spring that you attach to one of the stop posts. It's adds a little extra pop when you release the hatch. It's cheaper than replacing the cylinders.

Fortunatly I never needed one, I have seen many of the trunk poppers in person and they seem to work well and get the job done. :seeya:

You can also ever so slightly, and "gently", bend the spring (wire) by the lock area inside if you remove the center trim from the back interior. It takes a bit of pressure so one would have to be careful not to Bubba it, but it works too. Over the years that wire gets bent down a little. The latch mechanism changed sometime before 2000 I think, so not everyone's would look the same. The part I am talking about is a wire that extends across the latch about 3/4" or so. No cost there but I agree the lubrication of the latches and such is a good idea too. The absolute laziest way is to just pop the switch, get out of the car, and shut the doors with the windows up. Air pressure pops the trunk lid up a bit! LOL. But seriously, all the above methods posted by others will work.
