An engine wears out primarily from the introduction of airborne dirt and the formation of carbon during the combustion process. Even though the modern air filters are 99.9% efficient, dirt STILL enters the engine. A tenth of a cubic foot of infiltered air per every 100 cubic feet. Or a cubic foot of unfiltered air per every 1000 cubic feet. And then every time you have combustion of ANY kind of fuel, a small amount of carbon is formed. Carbon being as hard as it is (the hardest substance on earth) eats away at the rings and cylinder walls.

So until air filters are made that are even more efficient, airborne dirt will still enter the engine. And until we go to electric motor powered cars, carbon will still eat away at the rings and cylinder walls. That's a fact.

An engine wears out primarily from the loose nut behind the wheel. More engines fail due to a lack of maintenance than any other cause.................
