My 90 trannie pumps are shot.I found a 700r4 out of a 89 camaro rs. Dont know if the camaro had a 5.7 like my vette or a 305 high output. Will that trannie fit in my vette either way???

The Corvette had it's own specific style out-put shaft housing to allow the center beam to bolt to it. Unless the camaro has that housing it will not be dirrect fit. I am not sure of out-put lengths to determine if the housing can be transfered to make it work???

Tail shaft housing & tail shaft different, beware of 60 degree V-6 700r4s (2.8 & 3.1L), they have different bell housings. The book JTR swapping chevy tpi & tbi engines, this book has alot of useful tips on swapping parts.

The Vette output shaft is 3/4" shorter than a regular T700.
I used a non Vette core for my $$$ rebuild , swapped on the Vette tailshaft housing and had no problems with the driveshaft. Some have had to trim the output shaft back to get enough freeplay on the driveshaft yoke.
Be aware a non Vette trans has a different governor , servo and shift calibrations designed for "performance" driving = Shift points are different
All internal hard parts are the same

If the pump is shot, just put a rebuilt pump in it. The 700R4's are very easy to overhaul. I just overhauled mine for less than $200. Just get a Hanes book and have at it. Yeah, they ARE messy, but if you do the overhaul yourself you'll save yourself a ton of money.

Sounds like it would be tough and almost imposible to get it to fit.

Read the fine print.
It is the physically the same trans with a different tailshaft housing. If you are on a budget and not concerned with the shift calibration , then a cheap fix.I got lucky and didn't have to cut mine shaft; Pete has had to cut his; no biggy

Again, true. I have done a few hundred of them.

Pete, maybe you put up the rebuild pics of your custom trans.
