Hello johneverson,

I have also heard similar stories. Actually when car care technology first started to come about, many polishes were designed for use on both cars and furniture. These products were excellent for older lacquer paints and finishes. However, today's paint technologies (Clear Coats, etc.) are very different from what they use to be. I am not 100% positive if the Furniture Polish would be the best for on these applications.

I also think that furniture polishes contain higher amounts of oils in them that would temporarily enhance the shine of your paint.

Anyway, that is my $.02 on the furniture polish story. I hope this helps. Maybe someone else can chime in with some additional info.

Thanks

-Dale

I have also heard that back in the days people did use furniture polish on cars. There are currently a lot of great waxes and paint selants on the market. I for one won't be putting furniture polish on any of my cars.

I find this funny that people would put furniture polish on their pricey cars? :willy_nilly: Living in California you see alot of weird stuff everyday!

Guess if you had a 40 Ford Woodie it would be appropriate. :D

We used to use Pledge on our 26' Sea-Ray boat between its twice a year paste waxing. Worked great on the boat, used after every wash, was quick, and didn't make the deck slick. That's what the dealer told us they used to get the glossy shine you see on all the boats at the boat shows. But, this was in the late 70's - early 80's before they started putting layers of clear coat over a boat's wax impregnated gel coat. We quit using it on our boats when they started putting clear coat over the gel coat. It didn't produce the same shine and sometimes made it look like there was a cloudy film on the deck. Definitely won't be using it on our new vette.

Yes, back in the 60's I used it on my 64 GTO, and yes it was Pledge,
this was our detailer.

Sounds like when I was going through boot camp we used to use "Mop n' Glow" to spit shine our boots right before we had an inspection! WOW did that put a shine on them!!! Of course it was'nt that great for the leather, but they looked great!

I for one have never heard of any of this until now, and I am surprised, since I am 42 and I have been around cars since I was just out of diapers actually...lol but nothing is really that shocking to me. I guess when I first heard about clay bars a few years ago, I thought that that was odd also, now I use the clay bar on all my vehicles. But the furniture polish I will probably pass on that idea.

I have never heard of using it on a car,
but all the old timers that I worked
with used it to polish and shine up
all the equipment in our elevator
machine rooms. The paint would
shine like it was brand new.
