The PO was a next door neighbor- He bought it in '71. I've been working on it since then. He turned 71 last year and offered it to me. He said he couldn't bear seeing one of his kids get it. I couldn't pass it up. So, I've got a 69 that I've known since '71, but owned since October '07.

I had an 84 corvette, but after awhile I wanted a convertible, so I traded the 84 in as a down payment for my wife's new car. I was saving up for a C-4 convertible when my brother in California called and needed money, being my brother I couldn't say no. I gave him a third of what I had saved up, knowing I wouldn't see the payback. My wife (30-years) always wanted a diamond ring and after her mother passed away I spent another third of my "Corvette fund" on a new ring for her. She had earned it. She took two years off work to care for her mother who had cancer. I then came to the conclusion that I would not get my C-4 convertible. Three weeks after I purchased the ring I won some money in the lottery. I put two-thirds away for retirement and used the rest to purchase a 1972 454 Corvette convertible. The C-3 corvette was always my favorite corvette. I did my homework, looked at a lot of C-3's and came to the conclusion that I wanted a 72 convertible, but it had to be a big-block. When I met the gentelman selling the car and saw that Ontario Orange paint (my favorite color), original engine with a four speed, I knew it was going home with me. The seller did a body on restore and it's in mint condition. I have owned my 72 Corvette for a year and thank God everyday for my luck. My friends say good things happen to good people, I guess they're right. Take a look at "My Gallery" to see my car. Thanks, efkono

Just curious to see how long everyone has been holding onto these cars?
Bought my 78 4spd in 2006 from a used car lot owner. One of his personal collections and was looking to liquidate. Was in ok shape, but I have fully restored it in/out and given it some modern upgrades. It's not original anymore, but who cares! It looks fully original from the outside, but once you pop the hood, originality goes out the window- I ripped out all of that smog equipment and let my baby breathe... lot's of blood, sweat and tears (of frustration), but now I have a real head turner that runs 12:50's in the 1/4 mile and is a total sleeper. About 500 hp with a Tremec 5 spd conversion (transmission) and sounds like it wants to kill something. I also owned an 81 in 1986 but soon had to sell it (because I was only 23) and the insurance was killing me, but I knew I would someday get another C3- my wife loves the car also- we originally dated in that very 81 vette! Mark my words- C3's are coming back strong- a 69 convertible went for $75,000 at Barrett Jackson's auction just last year. Another 73 convertible went for $65,000 (not original) at a local Orlando auction this year! I have about $30,000 in mine with all the upgrades, but why on God's green Earth would I ever sell something so dear? -Daddybugs

I bought my 73 4-speed right out of high school and drove it almost exclusively while I went to college. That was 21 years ago. It has been through a lot since then (small engine fire-shop's fault, nose slammed into wall-mechanic's fault, broken halfshaft-my fault!) and the car has had my blood, sweat, and tears, literally, all over it at one time or another. Now its pretty fixed up and in great shape, and I have added a new stereo sytem, four functional taillights, and put in leather seats from a 94 Vette which was a bit of a tight squeeze. I am 6'5" and I don't so much as get in the car, as wear it! Here are a few pics, some with my 2000.

An 81 black beauty I've had for 3 weeks. I always wanted a Vette. I sold a perdy 82 Silverado, A perdy 1984 Z28 and a $2500 Browning 1963 Belgium made shotgun.
The car needs allot less work than My Z did. I will keep my black beauty till my dying days. I retired early because of a severe back injury but i shall make it perfectly original and leave it to my Grandson.
I have never in my life driven a car that was so much fun.

This actually was ment for another thread, but wouldn't post kept saying not logged in.I accidently post on this thread and noticed this morning then copied to intended thread and that worked. But I have owned since FEB 05 .well this is the third try? it all started when I decided I wanted a corvette (75). my buddy had this awsome red one.drove it once and said I would buy it some day. well that day came so I dished out 8000 and drove to NY and back in march with my new vet.well got it registered and wentr for a ride. Made it 7 miles and she started coughing and died. well made it to my brothers and proceded to install everything under the hood that would make it run.3 days later I changed the fuel pump and away we go. driving home that night with sister in for the ride ,the lights decide to go out driving down the hyway.they came back on a minute later.well over the course of the next 6 weeks I put radiator for overheating ,brakes becuase they stopped working, new rubber fuel lines,a couple of vacum lines and new exhaust system.rode for 2 days and startedblowing u joints 3 then i said enough, took thebody off and the frame split in half.now three years later ,a new addition, porch, yard lanscaped and finally the bathroom is done.I'm finishing up the restoration learned alot from a lot of people.learned to say no to the better half and relized that a finish date will get here on its own. but will take the time needed to finish it right no sense in rushing now.
good thing I bought this from a buddie can you imagine what i would have to do if it was a stanger.
No regrets can't wait to drive it

1980 - 28 years, 455,000 miles

That can't be true. All you have to do is watch TV to see that GM and the rest to the American auto mfg's have never built a quality car. How could you possibly have a 28 year old car with over 50 miles on it?

I bought my 69 in 1969 at Berzals Chevrolte in Catskill NY. Actually ordered it, Cam Am White with emerald green Interior. 350/350 4 speed. Miss those were the days of Camaros, Chevelles, Gtos, 442s, Roadrunners and Mustangs...

What is sad is the car has an "antique " license plate on it and I'm older than the **** car! Wahts that make me? When I go, I want to drive if off the cliff like Thelma and Lousise

Picked It up in August of 08. Dark Blue 1980 L48 - all numbers match. I have wanted a corvette since 1962 when I turned 16. I had the money but my father said no way. Went to college, got married, had children and it just didn't seem practical. In July 08 guy had one sitting in his driveway for 7 years - not even started. He said get it out of the drive and I will make you a great deal. After cleaning all the fluids, new brake system and tires I still have less in it that most people do in a 4-wheeler or bass boat. I love driving it. I know an 80 isn't on anybody's list of must have Corvettes but it is ours now and we love it.

Man, that must have hurt....$3,400 is exactly what I paid for my '68 vert in '74. I looked at a few C-2's that were much less expensive than what I paid for my '68. If I had only known......

I rescued my 80 C3 from IOWA, and she seems very grateful for it to me. She is in rough condition but after talking to her I have found that she wants to be a one of a kind C3 with new a soul. You see she has not gotten the respect she has been desiring. She told me that she wants an LS7:DTS-smilie:, a T56, and a lot of rubber in the rear. I wonder if she is requesting a tubbed rearend? I asked her if she would mind going topless and she came back with most definitely:drool5:. So any help my fellow C3 owner can give would be very helpful and appreciated.

Just curious to see how long everyone has been holding onto these cars?

I bought my car second hand 1982 Corvette from a Corvette used car dealer here locally. I have owned it now since May 1988 and have approximately 153, 000 miles on it and it had about 46,000 miles on it when I bought it.

I got my 73 in 2003. It sat in a garage since 1984 and had the 84 plate and window stickers. It was bought new by a rural postman and had 100000 miles on it. I had it running by days end...but it only had 7 cylinders. I spent a year on the drivetrain and everything mechanical and she is alive!!!

So My 80 is coming back to life. Maybe I should call it Lazarus? Vette Brake and Products (VBP) just sent me this really cool catalog with a package, inside the first 2 or 3 pages, in it that replaced all of the suspension front and rear with C3 fitting C5/6 suspension system. All for less then $6k. Everything from the master cylinder to the sway bar in the rear. Unless I hear about a better supplier - I'm getting this package and setting my baby up and on the road again. Is this a good plan or is there better? This package seems to demonstrate that several people in the VBP team have put their heads together and really thought of everything. It really impressed me - to say the least.:DTS-smilie:

Bought my '72 roadster in August of '73 from it's 1st owner who was going thru a divorce. It had 7,000 miles and I gave him $4,250.00 in cash. A year later, I bought a removable hardtop for it for $250. It's a base 350, 4 speed, no power steering or brakes, has am fm radio, po2 caps, full stainless exhaust, ss calipers, have original pieces but replaced the radiator, Holley DP carb, Edelbrock performer man., and she now has just 59,000 miles. She's the original white with a black vinyl interior and a teak st. wheel I got from a C2. Love my ride!!!!!!

Well, I just joined the forum, I bought my 1973 t-top in the fall of 1982 with 82,000 miles. It had never been titled it was sold from my home town dealer to a auto wholeseller in town. So a very short paper trail. I've done 99% of work thats been done on my car so that makes it very special to me. 454,auto,ac,ps,pb,pw,rear window defogger,pw. now stainless brakes, parking shoes and lines. exhaust pipes and flowmaster mufflers. Future plans new wiring harness (if I can find/afford) and repaint. My last paint job on it July 4th, 1985. It needs a little love. mileage 112,000 I'm a member of the SOHK ( School of Hard Knocks ).

I found my C3 Collector Edition via a friend who knew about the car. It was owned by an older gent in upstate NY who only drove it on clear, sunny days during the warmer months; it was garaged from September through April each year and never saw road salt. After he died his wife put it into storage for her son, and then the son died and the son's wife drove it briefly before putting it into storage in an outbuilding on her parent's farm for 6 years. Fortunately they had the foresight to start it on a regular basis, but they never drove it out of that outbuilding! It is all-OEM with numbers matching and very low miles (or should I say kilometers , because it has a kilometer speedo and odo). When I bought it, I had it shipped directly to my local Chevy dealer here in west central FL and had it examined thoroughly to replace or repair everything that was questionable (all new fluids, filters, rubber items plus several necessary repairs). The car had its original bias-belted tires, and those were replaced with Goodyear Eagle GT II radials. Currently the only thing that does not work on the 'Vette is the power antenna (will not go up when the radio is turned on or retract when the radio is turned off -- and it is a special antenna, since the radio is the AM/FM Auto-Reverse Cassette CB radio offered that year -- the antenna has a special loading element for the CB). Because the paint had some imperfections from being stored for several years without a cover, I did have it repainted in the original Silver Beige with the correct Collector Edition decal package; the paintwork was done by a local Corvette specialist. I did get a personalized FL license plate which reads "82 C3CE" -- how appropriate!

I bought my '71 5 weeks ago, had to borrow a little to get it, the former owner, a 73y.o. widow lady, bought it in 1980 from the guy who drove it off the showroom floor. she had a hip replaced in 1999 but would not sell her Vette, reguardless of the fact that she could not get in or out. It had sat in a barn since '99. I have spent about $4000.00 on it before making the first payment. Don't plan to ever sell it, it is going to my youngest son, 21y.o.. When I'm dead ofcourse. Do not weep for my oldest boy, he is getting my '69 Chevelle SS396 Rag-top. After I'm dead ofcourse. LMAO!!!

Hubby and I purchased our '73 June 12, 2010 so we are still getting to know her.

From the get go we knew there was an issue with her rough running. We had a new distributor and wireing put in and drove her yesterday after picking her up from the mechainic's shop. Theer is a world of difference in the way she runs now. Heck she dioesn't even sputter and die when she is going 55 MPH anymore. Thanks GOD.

She had a off frame restore 5 years ago and the gentleman which owned this Vette passed away before he had time to restore the interior.

We have contacted a guy who is very Vette Savvy to install new door panels, seat belts, carpet and seats.

We will have her lookin might fine before long. :drool5:

Later we will consider a new paint job for this Vette. she is Plum is color and I've applied for personalized license plates. My first choice was PLM CRZ , second choice is PLM KRZ.

I've had mine since I was 12, back in 2002. It's a '77, and I believe I was the third owner. It was my first car! My dad respected my appreciation for the classics. I loved that car. Well, I think I've had my '72 for too long. Bought it from the first owner in August of '74. It has 59,000 miles but I'm just not comfortable taking it on anything but a short trip around where I live. I went out to the Nissan dealer and looked at the 370z's. Would be nice to have a new ragtop that I can trust to take anywhere that has a warranty that someone else can work on for a change if something should happen. If I bring up the subject of getting rid of the Vette, the family says "No, you can't, you said you'd never get rid of the Vette." Just no fun anymore!

Well, I saw mine on the showroom floor mid summer of 1973. It was sold to a car wholesaler where it lived until I brought it in the fall of 1982. I'm the only person it been titled to. It sat in my barn until I build a garage and paid the car off. I've done 95% of the work to it. Last painted on July 4 1985, and its getting ready for a little spray again, I'm just a lot slower. It was a $7,200.00 car new, a loaded 454 car. My wife doesn't like it, it's too loud. 118,000 miles oh well guess just have drive it bye myself.:smiley_drinkcoffee:
