First thing I did was to put a Pineer CD/MP3 radio in with Polk Speakers. I modified the front Grilles and made them out of Bathroom fan grilles with wood lathe and fabric stapled to it. I used the existing wires but grounded one end for noise reduction. Fabulous sound......

I own a 1989c4 with the gold bose. I will be replacing the stock unit with a 1 din Alpine and Boston Acoustics speakers. Do not get rid of your stock unit, it will be worth the storage. My plans are to refurbish and someday re=install the original. Don't worry over time the amps which are probably what is worn can be rebuilt. I doubt the h.U>. is a problem. Replacing speakers in the front door can be tricky let me know if you need any advice I might have. Remember you are probably replacing a 1 1/2 din Delco/Bose HU with a 1 din HU American Technologies makes a nice conversion for this adding a slot big enough for a Jewel case/ipod/papers etc. rather than a blank piece of plastic. Part #GMK 440.

I took out the stock cassette.(Didn't work worth a S***) I bought a factory harness for the "84 GM cars and with another harness from a newer gm. I Jerry-rigged my Sonoma CD Player in I can't bolt it down because the mounting brackets are reversed unlike the factory cassette radio IT worked pretty good until one of My BOSE Speakers died (Lots of static and whining when the radio was off, I pulled the speaker and that stopped the noise( Anyone know where i can get a 4" speaker to fill in the hole.... Its working good now, Just not alot of sound from the back speakers. I honestly don't know if this radio is set up for an older bose system( I think it has its own amp because it has a cooling fan built in to it.......)

Mine has some cheap o replacement that doesn't even have a brand on it! Who ever had the car before me must have changed that out. The only thing that works is the radio, and sounds crummy also. :(

Right now mine has a Kenwood Cd,DVD TV combo with MB Quart speakers throughout. A Rockford 1200 watt amp and an Alpine TypeR DVC 12...Though I am thinking about adding a smaller amp just to run the component speakers...

When I bought this car I thought everything was cool with it but then some of the stereo components started going bad. Much to my suprise I found that whoever installed the system in this thing butchered the Factory harness and they obviously had no clue what they were doing...Talk about being pissed...I think I strung together whole sentences of obscenities...lol
