A buddy of mine has been telling me that I should toss in a 160/170 thermostat, he make it sound like its going to make this hugh difference with a tune? I'm having a hard time believing that much gains could be seen from a thermostat. I understand cooler engine runs better... does it make that much difference? Or is my buddy off his rocker? Thanks!

Your buddy is correct to some degree, with the 160 thermostat the car will run cooler which equals more power. Is it going to be a "major" difference? In my opinion not really. Add a couple more mods with that Tune and you'll see some differences.

I agree with vette-007. After my Honker goes on the thermostat goes in and then it's of to corvettes of winchester to see Chuck for a computer tune. I'm hoping to see some difference but I don't think just a thermostat will do anything noticable.

No it won't and depending on where you live it could be down right detrimental! LS1s are designed to run warmer then their predecessors...

STATS ARE A GREAT IDEA. The cars run too hot and that's not good.....Other thing is that we can make more power and keep it totally safe with the current 93 octane fuel we have......

STAY TUNED!

I have a 160 with an electric waterpump. On real cold days, twice in a year, a got a code that the car's running too cool. Otherwise, I have no problems. If I lived where it's cold and I drove the vette daily, I would put back the stock thermostat as well as undo the throttle body bypass mod.

I didn't see a whole lot of differance when I put a lower thermo on my C5. So I can't really promote a mod that I don't see a good gain on, but I'm not an expert but I do know alot about the C5's.

Did you install the electric water pump yourself? How was that?

Thanks for the tips everyone. It looks like you all have received nice results from adding a 160/170 thermostat. Done deal, picking one up!
