I have a '86 C4 that I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to with. I'm thinking about doing something "big". And would appreciate anyone giving tips or advice. I'm open on new motor, rebuild existing and such.
I don't want to spend a race car buget on this but would like to see what options are out there and what others have done.

I bought an 85 and as soon as I got it the OD box laid down along with the EFI/cooling system/etc the list goes on and on. So now I'm doing a 427 small block buildup with a procharger. As I went along repairing stuff, I don't have much patience for any maintenance thats more difficult or time consuming than it has to be. So stuff is always being deleted or reconfigured(I figure if you use it hard it will break eventually and it needs to be maintainable).
If you don't want to spend a ton of money you could do a 383 or 406 with good heads/cam/intake setup you should get 500 bhp easy. That'll tear up most cars on the road. If you really want something cheap that an absolute terror, do a BBC conversion with a 496/540/572 and a power adder. You'll have to do some fabrication though, but it seems like no matter how modest your goals are fabrication of some sort is required.
