Am wanting to change trans fluid and filter on my 88 convert. Put it up on a lift and saw there was an "X" frame covering the pan. The lift I was on would not allow me to unbolt the x to get to the pan. Any suggestions?

Yeah, find another lift. I thought you didn't have to change the oil until it reached the 100,000 mile mark. How many miles do you have on your car?

Get new filter from Ford FMX trans ; much cheaper than ones from Vette places
You have to reuse your gromett because the Ford one doesn't fit .
Make sure fluid is refilled to the filler plug.; any less and O/d may not shift

Exactly the reason so much bad press on DNE 4+3 trans;
people (mis)treated them like a regular auto and then complained when they went bad.

Factory specified intervals for change of fluid in O/d component of trans; 12,000 miles

Have 62,000 miles and is working fine. Thought it might need change after 21 years...........
