I have one of those G-techs, I don't have a drag strip near me so how accurate are they? If I do a few runs on a certain piece of road and then do some mods and do some more runs will it be close? Or are they all over the place? Has anybody used one at the drag strip and compared the times between the G-tech and the real track numbers? i read a magazine article and it sade it was within .1 to .2 seconds but the magazine may have been paid to say that.
I have this stretch of road in front of my business and I used a gps to check the elevation and it is within a few feet all the way down the road for about a mile. I was thinking about doing this with the g-tech I have, I havn't used it for about 10 years(the g-tech). When I put a few catalogue mods on my crossfire.
G-tech before mods on crossfire 15.5.
mods:
ads chip
180 stat
underdrive pulleys
splitfire plugs- don't say anything
8.8 mm accel wires
accel cap & rotor
K&N
G-tech after mods 15.1.
correct for elevation 14.57
the improvement was more than likely due to the fresh tune up parts.
Now my tpi I would like to do the same but do these G-techs work or are they BS?
I do like the way they flash your 0-60 time and keep counting and then flash the 1/4 mile time.

I just use a cheap $10 stopwatch.

I know he is gone, thank goodness, but his post points out the importance of consistency in any timing one might choose to to. That list of "mods" has only one performance producing item, the pulleys, which are questionable, at best, and maybe the chip (my chip change slowed my car down). Possibly the air filter and some of the other items increased performance because of a prior lack of maintenance, but they aren't "mods" they are simply "taking care of business". The maintenance on that car had to be pretty bad if those changes netted a 4 tenth 1/4 ET improvement. Properly set up and carefully administered to G-Tech numbers can be pretty close. That isn't reflected in this thread.

I have one that is a couple of years old and I use it at the strip for comparison. It is normally about a thousandth faster than the strip numbers. It is worthwhile for testing until you can get to the dyno, or strip. The key is to make sure you set it up properly.

I have had a lot of fun with mine. It has been very helpful helping to evaluate performance mods.
