: 1994 Customization
Rich Lenhart 11-16-2009, 10:13 AM I have a 1994 Corvette in rough shape.
I am doing a full blown customization to this car.
with a $70,000.00 budget, we are talking Custom Paint, Custom Interior, stroker motor, procharger, lots of chrome, built trans, suspension, custom tires/wheels. you get the picture.
the shop is telling me it could take 18 months or so once we get started. they do have several other simular projects currently underway.
does this seem like a resonable time frame???
need some feed back.......
85L98-84L83 11-16-2009, 10:29 AM That is alot of money to spend on a car. Has the project started already? If it were me, and you wanted to do up a C4, I would sell what you have and buy a ZR-1, The engine alone makes that car cool. You could polish the whole engine and do a little work on the engine while it is apart and your paint and interior and that would be one award winning car.:beerbang:

Rich Lenhart 11-16-2009, 10:52 AM I really like this car. Its been handed down from my dad, and want to keep it.
How long do you think it should take, baised on the shop having other projects along with mine???

If you are dropping $70,000 in that shop, you tell them when you want it done, you could always go somewhere else. The customer is always right.:beerbang:
wayback 11-16-2009, 11:54 AM For 70 big ones go buy a 2009 Z06!!! Spend 2k and fix up the C4 as a good daily driver. Best of both worlds.
ps you will never get your money back on the C4.

yeah, i have to agree drop a couple grand in the C4 and order a new one that s a lot of $$$ that you will never see again
a57chevy43 11-16-2009, 12:41 PM To answer you question is impossible because we dont know exactly what all your doing to it. Good paintwork will take time as well as motor work and chassis or even interior. Some cars take years to build. Quality work takes time. So i guess 18 months is not too bad. But I do agree with everyone else, you will never see that money back out of that car. If you want to put that money into something go with either older or new. If you put that money into a mid 60's you will most definately get your money back or at least most of it.

todd_vette 11-16-2009, 01:36 PM It took me almost 8 years to build mine. Even if i had all the cash at once it would have taken about 2...that would include hiring some help as well.
It takes time to get stuff done. It was 6-8 months just to get the main batch of my engine chroming back and i have seen plenty of custom full-off paint jobs take a year or so and still cost 10K+.
When you see these shows doing complete rebuilds in days they scare me as to what corners were cut.

sounds like he's made up his mind...I mean if I had 70 grand to just throw into a car all at once I don't think I'd be worried about getting my money back..But that's just me.
18 months sounds pretty reasonable to me...but not sure I could go that long without my vette lol

redvertc4 11-19-2009, 06:54 AM If you put 70 large into that car you will have an unbelievable Vette once done.:sm_party:
todd_vette 11-19-2009, 01:05 PM If i had had a 70K budget for my build it probably would have needed FAA certification.:happy0045:
As it was i think i brought mine in under $15K
70K ???
Motownmotors 427cid all al. small block, Paxton Super charger (s?), B&M custom racing 700R4, carbon-fiber drive shafts, ZR-1 type brebo brakes and wheels, Complete custom engine management...maybe ZR-1 engine and computer with custom interface for led dash???
Who knows what i could have done....
brassones 11-20-2009, 06:44 AM Don't know if I would dump that kind of money into a C4, might just get a really nice used C6 Z06!!!!
smokinC4 11-21-2009, 07:33 AM Just thinking of all the things I could do to my Vette with a fraction of that $$
