: Question about traction control...

Have an 08 A6. In 3rd gear around 5000 rpm traction control starts working. Have HP Tuner and the log shows throttle and timing being pulled. No misfire. Now this is around 105-110 mph when it starts so the car was not losing traction. Particularly when it ran find in 2nd gear. The car will not go any faster than this when this happens. I can turn TC off and the car runs fine. My vette used to shift to 4th around 117 mph with no problem and TC engaged.

My question, is there a sensor that may be malfunctioning? Can I change something in the tune to eliminate this? Perhaps desensitize TC? I was on good pavement, tested multiple time with same results.

I read on another thread that sometimes the Traction Control will kick in at certain speeds because of different overall tire dimensions than what was stock.
The TC system thinks the front and back tires are moving at different speeds (slipping) and timing and throttle are modified by the computer.
When you cut off the TC, it can no longer modify based on this perceived 'slippage'.

Have you changed anything about your tires?
tire pressures all even?
Hope this helps.

I do not have factory tires however I measured from the top of the rim to ground and they measure within about 1/8" of being the same. That is a difference though and may be my problem.

There is nothing really you can do about tuning the traction control, apart from setting how it controls traction.

What size tires do you have. For example 285/35/19 ?

Ian, I have 285/35/19 Invos on the rear and 225/45/18 Generals front.

The Invos are factory size. I went to the 225 to simulate a skinny, LOL!, being the narrowest that is recommended for my 8.5 wide wheel and 12 pounds lighter than the factory runflats. Could be my problem but sure measures awfully close to actual factory height.

I occasionally have the same problem on my stock '08 A6.

Still have the factory GY's on the stock rims.

So, I guess an A6 tune wouldn't take care of this?

If under Engine TM if we change the Failed Duty Cycle % would that reduce the sensitiveness of traction control with the different tire diameters? Maybe under speedo change tire diameter a tad?
