I have a 1998 vette and have replaced the fob batteries and re-programmed twice but the next time i try to unlock the doors with the fob nothing happens. Someone told me that there is a receiver in the vette somewhere that may need attention/replacing. Can anyone tell me where this receiver is located and if this is my problem? Thanks

I'm not sure if the reciever is the problem, are you picking up your Tire Pressure sensors? I would assume that if the reciever was bad your TPM would be hosed as well...

The reciever is located behind the driver's seat.Depending on which model you have, i.e. FRC, Coupe, etc, will determine if you may have to remove any trim panels or carpeting. It's about 3" or 4" square and has two plastic antennas sticking out that run for and aft. It is easily removed from it's mounting bracket. Once installed, try to do a fob re-learn procedure, I think a Tech II might be needed to synch the remote receiver with the RFA and your TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor system).

Hope that helps...

I'm not sure what the exact problem is,... but I have a friend who had a 2000 FRC that he sold recently and now has a 2002 Z06 and he wrote me this morning saying that both of them have/had door locking/unlocking issues. I will see if I can email him and have him join here too and maybe shed some light on this issue.

You haven’t said if your Tire Pressure Monitoring system is working correctly, if it is then your remote receiver is functioning. Also post any codes you might be getting...

I did some research and the biggest culprits of the problem you are experiencing are *drum roll*

1. Bad Key Fob,
The remotes do go bad! You will need to find one with the same type of operating system. The early C5 are incompatible with the newer ones. 2001 - 2004 are different than 1997-1999. I think 2000 were different still but are backwards compatible for the 1997–1999s. Check on e-bay.

Before you buy a new one have you tried re-synching the FOB also? There are two different procedures to get the FOBs to work. There’s a RE-LEARN and a RE-SYNC procedure. You should RE-LEARN first and then do the RE-SYNC if your fob stops working after the re-learn. It’s all covered in the owner’s manual.

2. Grounding issues with the RFA
The very first thing is charge the battery. Make sure it is FULLY CHARGED! The C5s are notoriously sensitive to weak battery voltage and can throw out a host of “odd” problems because of it.

Next , check chassis G-104/108 in the battery compartment. Follow the small negative battery cable down to the chassis ground stud. G-104/108. That is the PCM and RFA ground. Remove the ground eyelet from the stud and clean it with a wire brush.

I've had the receiver replaced in two of my GM cars over the years while still under warranty.
Check it out!
