Any heard this before? I had read last night that some people would use tire foam, the stuff in the aerosol cans on engine hoses and apparently it worked pretty good? Any truth behind this?

I was told by an experienced manager at my favorite tire shop not to use the foam on my tires because it would dry out the rubber. If true, that would not be good for hoses.

I have heard of people doing it. I have also heard of people using on the wheel wells. Personally I don't like to use the stuff on anything.

it will look good for a car show! But, once you leave the show every little bit of dust and debris from the road is going to stick to it. Which will make it dirtier than it was . Clean the engine with engine brite and do not use the tire foam. A clean engine looks way better than a greasy engine that you cant touch without making a mess on your clothes.

I can see where one would try it, it makes black tires look nice.

Collects dirt and makes it even harder to keep it clean.
Could be trouble if you get it on your belts.
You might want to find out if it's flammable as well.

A lot of used car lots use it for a nice quick engine bay clean up. It has been know to dry out rubber parts and it collects dirt during normal driving like crazy. I wouldn't recommend it.

Yeah, you have to be careful with stuff like that. Something that is water based is much better, because it won't have the oil and silicone content in it. (among other harsh chemicals)

People would be amazed at all the harsh chemicals in the cleaning supplies they are using thinking that they are just fine for engine compartments.

Goodtimes!

I rarely check the engine compartment unless the car is not running right!

Attracts to much dust,I clean my engine well, let dry and use a silicone spray,it drys to a high gloss shine or you can get the low gloss.and it lasts without being messy.

try reading it up more and see. I rather use wheel cleaners for wheels and tire shine for tires.

Whatever you try or use don't get it in any electrical connectors. Been there, done that and it cost me $176.00 to replace an electronic component.

Try Dri Wash 'n Guard's Dust B' Gone.
Works great, makes it easy to clean the ribbed hoses.

Well it does make the hoses look darker and I don't think that it could hurt them, just would be collecting debris quicker.

The only one that I haven't had the issues stated above was the original armor all tire foam. I did my friends engine compartment (plastic and hoses) six months ago and it still looks good. I sprayed it and wiped it down after it sat for a little while.

I've used tire foam for years on all my cars only tires fender wells and black plastic air dams, wouldn't put it on anything in the engine compartment though.
