Well I ended up buying the vortec head's for $200.00, and now im gonna save them for about a week to get some more $ to purchase the chrome covers which they are selling to me for $40.00 and then also to purchase the edelbrock performer intake for the vortec heads as well as a performance cam which they were telling me a 282 would do good with that setup... IDK exactly what the 282 has like lift and all but it sounds like a good setup to me...

As I said before I was running 14.80 with the 820 cfm holley carb, 350 motor, some mexico heads that i looked up online and are worth nothing! haha:smilielol5: , edelbrock performer intake, 343 gears, 700r4 transmission, and this cool guy behind the wheel :)

Hopefully after the Vortec Heads installed and new intake, and new cam.... hopefully, and I mean hopefully I can run low 13's... i want 12.50 cause that to me seems like a good run for a 1/4 mile run... :D

Any Advice or Tips?

:noidea:

i think you might be expecting a little too much 12.50 may be a little harder and more expensive to hit than you re building but good luck you never know

Just be careful about hi-lift cams on stock vortec heads, any good engine machinist can take care of them. If you don't, you could bend push rods, 0.480 is the limit w/out machining.
Sounds like you got a good winter project.

I know 12.50 is a bit too much that I am expecting with such little $ put into it but I am going to try to see what it can do and plus I am trying to at least hit the 13's...

Thanks for that advice on the .480 so hopefully soon I found out exactly what type of cam im going to buy...

Is there any recommendation you might have for that setup on a specific cam that will compliment the heads/intake/ and motor?

Your cam selection will depend on if you mach. the heads for higher lift, flat tappet or roller lifters(solid or hydralic). Are you gonna change rear gears?
The cam is the heart of the engine, so after you figure out what type of cam, ask a cam co. like Crane or Comp cams. They'll ask a bunch of questions, so be readdy.
If I was doing this on a budget, I would run the heads with miniumum machining, those heads flow great at lower lifts, put all the rest of my $$ into a hyd. roller cam set up.

Thanks for the advice I will definitely look at everything and talk to my brother-in-law since he's the one helping me with this.
:)

The gears well idk... I think 3.43's are good idk if I'd need more or what because I do want this vehicle for not a EVERY DAY DRIVER but like a normal 2 to 3 days a week DRIVER so if I put more gears then it wouldn't be good on gas mileage...

I do have the 700r4 like I mentioned with a lock-up kit installed so it does help a bit on the gas and rpm's
:)

I will take your advice and check out the Hyd. Roller Cam. :) I will check with my brother-in-law since they were gonna sell me the cam. SO I will def. mention this to him. I love my in-law's cause its a RACING FAMILY !

Well so far i've test driven my car at the track this weekend and with the 820 cfm holley carb installed and me able to shift the gears manually I was able to hit 14.60 when before with the 600 cfm holley carb I was getting 15.00.
So I think this is good :) I still need to install the Vortec Heads, 284 cam (i forgot the brand), and also the Edelbrock Performer Intake.

Lets see what it gets me :)

Felpro makes a thin head gasket that helps boast compression (#1094) just make sure you measure piston to valve clearence.
If you have hood clearence, you can try a carb. spacer. When you get it running, a good tune (ign. advance curve, a/f ratio, & al the carb. adjustments) will help alot.

Well I actually bought DC Gaskets in Mexico cause they were surprisingly A LOT CHEAPER and they are the same as they sell here in the U.S.

They sell the DC Gaskets here Locally at Autozone, Oreily's, Etc. for around 15 or more per gasket. I bought 2 for the heads and 1 for the cam for a total of 13 Dollars!!! :)

I live 5 mins from the border so it wasn't a big hassle plus i was in mexico at the time so I killed two birds with 1 stone :)

Yeah im hoping 1 second drop for the 1/4 mile or more which i think im pushing but i want more...

my wife drives her 85 vette and runs a 12.60 but needs to just tune some stuff on her vette and also we need to install her a new set of mufflers to let out more for the new cam installed cause its bigger... So yeah she should run 12.20's easily...

Here's her vette the checkered 85' and my red one on the side...

Vortec Heads, 284 Cam & Edelbrock Performer Intake are installed and she's working better, faster, and looking sexier than ever!!! :)

The Vortec Heads had to be cut down just a bit since my pistons had the dish and wasn't flat. The cut made of course MORE COMPRESSION instead of the 64cc the Vortec Heads Offer...:sm_party:

The 284 Cam WoW isn't ROUGH as I expected and isn't as SOFT as either... My exhaust quiets the sound but you can still feel the rumble and not so dramatically either!:happy0045:

The Intake went in perfectly well and WoW let me tell you this baby works like a charm!

So ALL & ALL before when I would shift racing down the street I would have to shift at 5,500 RPM and now I am shifting at 6,500. This car Pulls in 1st, 2nd, & 3rd!!! :burnout: I will update you of how much speed I got hopefully this wed. IF I can take it to the track cause i've bumped into some financial issues :(

I tested my car this wed. at the track and I got an amazing run with this car! :)

I am very satisfied with the work done to the car but of course theres still lots more to do to it... And all I want to get to is 12.50... Yes I know... You say that now until you get to it then you want to go faster... I've seen it and Heard it but yeah I hope i stop at 12.50! Haha :smilielol5:

So.... This was the Result...
I tested the Car at 1600 stall for take off and ran a 13.60... :rockon6rk:

I was trying to max out at 2000 stall BUT... I messed up in double checking helmet, 1st gear, seat and 2000 stall AT the LIGHT so by the time I checked my 1st gear my car moved forward and so I let the gas go and tried to get to 2000 stall before the light turned green and well yeah I MESSED up an ran a 13.9 so yeah... (I changed the timing for this run also)

I wonder if the 2000 Stall will let me run a little faster... OR will it burn out...? who knows... BTW im running on my driving tires not slicks so yeah its an awesome car!
:Irule:

NEXT on my LIST!
MSD Ignition Box 6A
Roller Rockers
Valve Springs (LT4)
maybe a bigger cam...

Any Ideas or Suggestions...?
