I'm going to be putting in a new thermostat in my 2003 C5 this weekend and have been thinking about replacing the stock CAI with a Blackwing. I have been thinking about getting this for a little while now and just want to see what others thought?
I'm trying to make the best money decisions, as I haven't found that money tree yet :( . So any advice or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks guys
Ernie

The absolute cheapest one that works is modifying the exsisting one. I have the mod in a PDF if you want to look at it, send me your EMail address to tstarsvette@yahoo.com.
The Blackwing and Haltechs are pretty popular... I went with the Hurricane and really like it. If you're doing it make sure you get a bigger bridge, smooth coupler and clean your MAF. I'm not sure if it was needed but I did the idle re-learn right after installing my stuff too.

Spend a few extra bucks and get a Vararam or Stinger for more power! IHO

I just went with the blackwing, didn't want to modify anything other than just installing the thing. But thank you for posting to my question!

Can you get additional HP from doing that? Never new you could modify the stock CAI?

I'm sure it does but I've never really seen it guantified professionally...
There are two mods you can do to the Stock set-up... the "Flip Tie" and the "Scoop" mods.

I was just wondering. Did you figure that out yourself or is that a common tip? Kudos if you are the one that came up with that.

No no I didn't come up with those at all! They are fairly well known mods I'd say and I do agree KUDOS indeed for the orginators!!!!!!!
The flip tie is a variant of the stock Z06 set-up and adding the letter holder under the radiator shroud (or whatever that peice is called) was just a plain excellent idea!
I have a blackwing, can't pin point the HP gains because I had this and my exhaust done at the same time.

I recently put the Blackwing w/ the smooth bellows coupler and a Haltech air bridge. All for $150.00. Thank God for those older gentleman buying Z06s for stock autocrossing! All of the extras were worthless to him.
Another friend w/ a Z06 putting on a FAST intake and a larger LS2 throttle body. Keep it comin fellas. My C5 is getting faster at a Quarter of the price! The 2004 Z06 intake and throttle body was a freebie. I do polish his car for him though. ONLY with Adams Polishes!:burnout:
