I was wondering as a collective goupe here, What is the biggest problem any of you have had with your c4's? Cooling, Transmission, Idle or any of a hundred other things?

Yo Disturbed, "Our Cars" are getting a little long in the tooth, as they approach the quarter century, where every item is reaching old age and wearing out, plus they probably have suffered from owner neglect and abuse over these years. When embarking on the search for a older Corvette one must be of the mind that the initial puchase is only the beginning. Unless you are a motorhead or have the money to pay a mechanic...YOU WILL need to spend $$$$...this goes with ownership of ANY older car and moreso w/Corvettes,Allantes,Reattas,Jags, yak yak. If not buy a new one or low mile late model. I have owned more than 25 of the aforementioned BEASTS, the internet should help you through most issues as there is a family of enthusiasts on the net that are more than willing to assist. My 84 came to me w/69k, main issue was neglect...but that I could see, but yet suprises do come up. Hey they are still alot of car for the money. enjoy.

Yo Zonekiller, Not quite, you see after owning three Reattas, one Allante, four Jags, between Corvettes, it is truly a joy to work, tinker, play with the Corvette. To be fair, the C3s I've had were blvd. cars, my wifes 4Dr Bonnevilles in those days would smoke'em, the C3 lost its way, talking small block here as the big block has always been in a class of its own.

Had to replace the Master cylinder and booster on my 89 vert, now trying to track down an oil leak coming from the rear of the block.:thud:

It was cooling Never figured it out, and it was multiple things that gave out..Stat and the fan...I had to rig a fan switch and manually turn it on when I got it and the stat gave out after I bought it It still has the new mexico gremlins inside it

Did you check you fuseable link? that is what mine was all sorts of things gave out at once. It was a $3 part. If you trace the wires back it is in line between the relay and computer. I'll take a vid showing where it is and post it later.

MY 84's biggest problem was where I bought my reman brake booster......... hey orig equip stuff wears out.....but to have to suffer through 3 faulty units (YIKES i"m to old for that crap!!)........as far engine temps, this 84 w/70k I installed a 160 failsafe stat, constant run fan, new rad(came w/car), got caught on I-4 between Orlando & Tampa last summer, after sitting in stalled traffic for 20/25 min w/air running temp read 215/220, under 200 w/air in city traffic during our hot season. In winter months 160/167 around town. The trade off for this cool runner is city driving mpg drops from 17 to 15during cold spells, and speaking of mpg, 27 is the norm for highway for this car. All around I have been very happy w/this 25 yr old Corvette, decent performance, squeak & rattle free, for those of us that have owned older cars painted silver we know that silver is one of the colors that does not holdup well in hot sun, so its had a repaint. So all in all for a Corvette that was built 25 years ago, gone through several owners in beastly weather ( it probably go its share of throttle whippings) from north to south is not only good, but outstanding. Then consider what these cars can can be purchased for today, I would have to say quite a bargain. And parts are mostly unlimited & reasonable, full ins. coverage is cheap, first grade rubber can be had for $100 or less installed, ........an then there will always be those that say the glass is half empty, I say "go buy a Buick". Take care of the little things and the big stuff takes care of its self.

Flywheel on a manual tranny, flex plate on an Auto...I have checked it I have very little endplay in the crankshaft. I am hopeing that it was a defective Flexplate/Flywheel besides it is under warranty I think they are even going to cover most if not all of the labor charges as well.

My biggest problem is keep air in my tires. There a lot of construction going on in Natomas where I live and keeping nails out of my tires is a nightmare. :thud:

My issues have been in this order: Coolong (New radiator & rewire for fan), Headlamp motors (on third for drivers side only), Overdrive unit for 4 + 3 Doug Nash unit (still unresolved). Otherwise things have just been general maintenance. I'd love for someone to publish instructions on the proper process for replacing these headlamp motors - what a pain!

I have about 200 melamine plates and I can give you a few if you need them. I do not think that they are flexible however..... :leaving:
