: Still deciding if to go with Diablo vs computer tune
Yellow Duck 10-16-2009, 12:51 PM I keep hearing pro's and con's on both. I would like to have the flexibility to tune at my leisure and not be dependent on a tuner, especially considering some tuners lock their tunes, making you forced to go back to them. If you aren't happy with, this could make it very interesting to get them to unlock the tune and potentially not refund your money. Just to much drama for me to want to deal with.
So the big question is, if you really get to understand one of these Diablo predators, can you get a professional tune out of it?

So the big question is, if you really get to understand one of these Diablo predators, can you get a professional tune out of it?Besides the Predator being a great tool for exactly what you are looking for, it can be custom tuned as well, by any of our CMR dealers nationwide, meaning you bring them your car and Predator, they strap it to the dyno, tune it perfectly, then load that tune to your Predator.
You can still alter this tune using the adjustable parameters, and still have the Predator for logging/code clearing if needed.
There are also some good write ups on our forum that will help you dial your tune in to your car using the adjustable parameters.
Thanks
Mike
SmokinsilverC6 10-20-2009, 11:18 AM Mike, I'm not seeing the advantage of the Predator vs. an HP Tuner if you have to take it to a tuner to get it dialed in with a custom tune.
Mike@Diablosport 10-22-2009, 08:55 AM Mike, I'm not seeing the advantage of the Predator vs. an HP Tuner if you have to take it to a tuner to get it dialed in with a custom tune.Te Predator has tunes on it ready to go for a stock/mildly modified Vette. Once you go nuts with heads/cams/strokers/blowers, you HAVE to have the car tuned, the anvantage here is you can have a tune loaded to your Predator once you do this, so you dont have to go out and start over.
For 99% of the people, the standard tunes will suffice, with no need to ever see a custom tuning CMR dealer. The Predator also has enough adjustibility in it to allow you to dial in some mods or to suit your driving style.
Also, with the ability to go back to stock at any time, the Predator holds a clear advantage over a straight PCM tune.
Thanks

kwilliams 04-02-2010, 02:54 PM Mike,
At what point would you recommend going to a custom tune? I'm modifying an LS3 with headers, cold air intake, cam, and carbureted intake. Should the standard settings still handle these mods?

Did you say carbureted intake :1zhelp:
docholiday 04-30-2010, 10:36 AM Diablo is great for the DIY'er, I enjoyed my Preditor. After a few mods I moved to a custom tune. I do miss being able to tinker around with my tune though!
pmj341 05-03-2010, 12:33 PM I'm a firm believer in HP Tuners, I do all my own work and find it satisfying being able to do so.
You can spend some time on the HP tuners forums and figure out how to do most of it.
If you get serious like some off us you can take a class from the guys at the Tunning School and become very proficient. You can do a tune on the street with a WB and actually be better than most Dyno tunes, most tuners will not devote the time to fine tune your car, they will get it in the ballpark, but you as the driver know what you want and desire as far as driveability,
WOT scanning with the wide band will be quite a bit more accurate than a Generic/fit all tune.
Good Luck on choosing!!:duel:

Depending on what you added for mods, you should be able to still tune with Preditor.

Filmjay 05-16-2010, 01:04 PM EFI Live or nothing. There's just so much more it's capable of than any of the others.
If you've just got a CAI or headers, the Diablo should be plenty. If you're more serious, I'd say EFI Live first. But I must say HPT is catching up with their latest updates. But even then, I still say EFIL.
BigDs_C6 06-24-2010, 11:36 AM Like mentioned earlier, it depends on how heavily modded the car is. I was dead set on going with HP Tuners until I read up on some of the flexibility you have with a Diablo tools. I decided to pick up a Trinity and I love it so far... of course the only mod I've got so far is a CAI and modded exhaust.
I still plan on getting HP Tuners and getting up to speed on it, but I'm glad I got the Trinity. My car drives completly different now and if I want to tweak it some more or pull back a little I can. :thumbsup3:
