I saw on youtube a video of a guy converting an old Porsche 914 into an electric car and it got me thinkin, What about an electric Vette... seems someone had the same idea.

It may be scaralige to all you octane loving V8 Vette heads... but what do you think? If GM made an Electric Vette would you buy one?

It wouldnt be the first sexy electric

technically this would

At first, I saw that image and thought...that's not a Vette...that's the Tesla.....'doh! :D

If GM made an all-electric Vette...would I buy one? I want GM to make an electric Roadster, but I don't believe it should be called the Corvette. I would however, be interested in buying a car like you describe.

I can see it now, a performance Voltec powertrain...instant torque...sexy looks...infinity mpg...hehe -- I'm down with that!

See, in my opinion, there are two cars in GM's stable that should never go Electric, and should instead, evolve along a different path: The Corvette, and the Camaro. Both have a distinquishing feature that would be taking a chunk out of the soul of the vehicle if said feature was missing: The exhaust tone. It MUST be present.

So, instead of electric, I propose these two cars be given a dedicated ethanol powertrain. That is, not a "flex-fuel" engine. And engine designed to operate on ethanol, and ethanol alone. Given the current fuel/energy trends, this is practical in 15-20 years. They will perform better (E85 has an Octane rating of something like 104), get similar mpg (which won't matter, because ethanol is renewable), and will retain that exhaust sound, and mechanical brute force.

I certainly wouldn't say 'no' to an electric Vette, to answer your question...but I'd rather not see it take that route.

Just my .02.

LOL@the tesla

You make good points tho.

I think i would have liked to have seen an all Electric Saturn Sky. That would have been the best platform. good looking car for what it is.

That looks a lot better than I remember the old 914s. Getting rid of the VW engine in those cars is a big improvement. ;)

I would definitely be interested in a high performance sports car that is electric. I love the vette's V8 for what it does, not what it is. If I can get the driving experience performance wise from a cleaner more efficent powertrain, I'm all for it.

I'll add I keep the exhaust quiet, so my opinion might vary from someone who leaves the NPP open all the time or has bullets. I also think the vette's exhaust note isn't great. The Mustang has the classic V8 sound to my ears.
