I have not done mine in forever it seems and I was thinking of getting it done. Nothing is wrong but I was wondering if it would make a positive affect?

Industry standards every 30,000, but time has proven that it rarely happens.

I always changed my fluid when I bought a car (filter too of course) and then pretty much left it at that. Kind of depends on how you use the car to, if you drag or otherwise race it, you'd need to do it more often.
Remember, just draining the transmission only gets rid of about half the fluid, the rest is in the torque converter, so unless your TQ has a drain plug you will only get out about 40% of the fluid.
It's an easy job, do it yourself and you'll have the peace of mind it was done right...just be careful taking the pan loose, most do not have drain plugs, so you got to kind of loosen the pan more on one end than the other, and let the fluid drain out one corner a bit first.

I've bought cars new and used. I changed the fluid regularly on the new ones and not so much on the used, and I can't say I've noticed any difference in longevity from one to the next. One of my many Camaro's had close to 300k that I ran it up to and the 700 never had an issue despite me flogging it everywhere I drove. The 305 in it was a piece of junk though.

My neighbor's Chrysler 300C just lost his trans a month back and it has less than 45k on it. He told me that he just had the fluid changed at the 30k interval and you can tell by the smell as soon as the hood went up that it was burned up inside. No leaks so the case is probably still full of fluid. Go figure.

Only did it myself one time back in the 80s on a Dodge 727 TorqueFlight tranny. It was pretty easy.
I've had some tell me if it hasn't been regularly done at the proper intervals, it might be better not to disturb it.

I just changed mine on the 95 vette I just got.looks like it was never done before. When I did it I bought a 3 dollar drain plug kit and installed it in the back of the pan and plane on doing a drain and refill yearly and a filter change every 5 yaers.
filled it with Valvoline max life.

My Hydraulics teacher in college told us that if it had many miles on it and never changed to leave it alone. Reason being thsat an old tranny has a lot of soot in it ( burnt oil ) and will actually help seals in clutch packs seal and if it is changed that the detergents in the new oil will flush thatr out and make them leak causing the clutch packs to slip and burn up. I'm not saying you should or shouldnt but that is what he sais. He build some darn pretty good transmissions for racing too.
