Hi Guys and Gals,
Just a heads up on oil changes. For the past year been taken my 01 to the local machanic for the oil change and would cost app $120 buckaroos. Also i drive my Vette like im at the track all the time and use about 1/2 qt every 2 weeks. The dealer says is normal as injects some oil when high revs (something like that) so i always carried an extra qt as sometimes my low oil notice would come on. Bottom line it took it to Jiffy lube who also uses the synthetic and cost $90 which includes FREE TOP OFF when ever i get low. Just stop in and they do it. Dont know if theyn are in your area but maybe a similar chain offers the same.

I have a friend that took his car to a fast lube shop. They put the wrong oil filter on. He played hell getting them to replace the engine but finally got it done several months and a lot of brain damage later. I shy away from those places. Compare the experience of the people working at the fast lube vs dealership. I will pay $30 extra for the the peace of mind any day.

I always do my own oil changes on all of my cars. It is an excellent time to completely inspect the under side of the car plus do the oil and filter...............

Pennzoil Platinum full synth. at Walmart= 20 bucks for a 5 quart jug. (26.00 for Mobil 1)
Fram extra guard filter= 5 bucks
Doing it yourself= free
Peace of mind that Jiffy Lube(insert any quick change place, or dealer) and the jobs done right= PRICELESS
:D
For less than 40 bucks, you can change your own oil, and know the job is done right. Unless you're just too lazy, or physically unable to do it.

Jiffy Lube? :nono:
I also heard some horror stories about Jiffy.
I had mine last changed at the local stealership. They advertised $29.95 oil change including a tire rotation. So I figured since they cant do the tire rotation and the oil upgrade shouldnt be too much they assured me it would be ~$60.
When it hit the computer it was $95. I complained and they reduced it to $85. Big deal!!
I normally do my own but it was the first change since I had the car and the jacking thing had me crazy.

I had a dealership do my first change this past March as I didn't have anything I needed to do the change myself. It was just under $70 for them to do it.

I built 4 ramps out of stacked 2x10's to get the car 4" off the ground, then between the BMW jacking pucks and the aluminum low profile racing jack, I can now easily and quickly do the changes myself and they are easy.

I can see, when the cost is reasonable, to pay to have it done.

I use 4 wood platforms like you to get the car high enough to get my floor jack under it, then I jack the car up to whatever height I want with the jack under the front xmember protected by a piece of plywood then I put a jackstand on each side of the jack under the xrossmember and remove the jack and do the rear of the car the same way using the rear xrossmember.

The crossmembers are a much safer point for jacking and jackstands than the emergency roadside jack points...........try it!~

dump it in the local wild life preserve, lol, I'm kiddng don't do that and no I don't either, if you take it to your local parts store they should get rid of it for you, punch a hole in your filter let it drain for ATLEAST 24 hours call it 48 to be safe then you can throw it away
